Frozen Semen Studs

Was curious to every ones thoughts, are these dogs reproducing as well as live covered breeding studs? Have heard a lot of negativity about a few of these dogs ability to reproduce their likeness.

Of course they do. Artificial Insemination is the standard in about every other animal. Bulls, goats even.

Freezing semen doesn't change it's genetic construction.

Agreed, if the dog can't reproduce its not because of the seamen. If the pups out of the seamen can't reproduce it wouldn't have if it was a live cover pup. Some dogs reproduce and others just make more pups.

Theirs live cover studs that can't reproduce "their likeness"
what makes u think useing frozen should ?

The trick is useing a "prepotent " stud either frozen or live.....
that stamps it's pups with the desired traits one is looking for.
He has to be homozygous for those traits .

Finding such a stud useing either lane is ... Weeeell let's just say
GOOD LUCK.

Doesn't DNA break down as you get older sometimes which causes your genes to mutate? And doesn't some drugs/meds also cause genes to mutate as you get older? Can freezing sperm/DNA also cause genes to mutate? I wonder if any studies have been done?

Posted by pamjohnson on 01-11-2019 01:18 AM:

King the answer to your question is simple if ya think about human form. No. But drugs could affect offspring if misused.

Actually the freeze thaw of sperm can experience gene mutations be it human or animal.

Sperm having gene mutations taken from older dogs would also be more prevalent than the younger. I would also think that the risk would be even much greater in breeding an older female. Our dogs fetuses in utero are not genetically tested unlike in human mothers who become pregnant at an older age nor are pups in utero tested when frozen semen is used unlike in humans. You most likely would never know there was a problem even if the dog was born with mental retardation. The only effects we may visibly notice are those that are physically evident although occasionally we may speculate lol.

frozen semen

have used it and cannot tell no weakness in the pups or reproducing I think this is all hype if it did not work they would not have perfected it thanks tim

Though it was from collected but not frozen semen, Cinderella was actually from AI and helped by an older female. Seems like Ruby was 9-10 But I forget exactly tbh.

I know it was supposed to be an impossible litter as she hasn't even been in heat for a few years then

What I stated is scientific fact that gene mutations can occur during the freezing and unfreezing of semen.
Yes, thousands and thousands of healthy offspring are born but if a mutation were to occur unlike in humans where testing occurs we would most likely never know unless it was one visible, mental retardation and others caused by genetic mutations would never be caught. The reason for semen stored off older animals and humans being more susceptible is the lessened amount of antioxidants present.

Just because something can happen doesn't mean it will and the gene with a mutation might not even control anything important in a coonhound. But there is that chance. I had a pup born without a tail in a litter last year. I found out that it is the result of a mutated gene.

Live breeding won't prevent mental retardation. I have proof in my pen.

According to the Google girl, it is caused by a mutated gene in the pup and can happen in any breed. Now if you breed 2 dogs with the mutated gene, you could get a litter of puppies without tails. If I could find another tailless coonhound, I could start my own breed of tailless coonhounds.

I wonder if those crazy kennel barkers and pacers are actually mentally retarded? Could they be the result of defective or mutated genes? I wonder if there is any way that we could measure IQ in pups?
Doesn't the incidence of Down's Sydrome increase dramatically in babies born to older mothers? And isn't it caused by mutated genes?

If you breed 2 dogs with a low IQ to each other will you get pups with a low IQ?

Yes it is and here y'all are whooping and shocking what could be "special" dogs.

Semen

The only difference is the genetics in the females is different than 25 yrs. ago some off the females used today are slightly different in some ways and could help or hurt certian crosses

Oh my goodness, should we feel sorry for those "special" pups that leave out babbling and just run through the woods barking? They may be mentally retarded.

Agreed, but out of a great stud dog. How many male's would you say are dominant studs. For example take any of these bigger studs. How many pups out of these dogs does it take to get a dog that has everything and reproduces as good or better than the "big stud"? I bet its less than 5%.

new breeds

gene mutation has produced new breeds of animals by people who recognized the mutation and they did selective breeding to produce what they were breeding for. Maybe we could get hounds with 2 noses that have twice the tracking ability on really cold trails. .. I also wonder how fast a 5 legged dog could run.

I talked to a reproductive specialist about this a few years ago, this what she told me and showed me.
1. There is scientific fact that says Gene Mutation can occur during freezing and thawing.
2. There is scientific fact that this can not be proven.

1. There is scientific fact that says Gene Mutation can occur during live breeding.
2. There is scientific fact that says this can not be proven.

1. There is scientific fact that says anyone can find a scientist to debunk any other scientist!
2. It’s the Only scientific fact!
