How many people on here actually competition hunt????

Im sitting here and wondering how many of you regular message board people actually competition hunt? This thread is not out to be negative but i read from day to day all the situations and occurences that happen in the hunts usually the negative ones and i cant hepl but think well its because most dont know the rules or maybe just know portions of the rules. To be honest im sick of going to the hunts and having to argue with some ignorant person about a black and white rule. Even on here people get on here and respond with completley wrong information pertaining to rules. Im not saying i know everything but please people read the rules before competition hunting and dont just read them study them so when someone wants to get smart with you you can back up the point youre trying to make. Sorry i just had to get that off my chest. Just think of how the hunts would change if UKC made you take a test over the rules and pass it before you could enter a hunt. Man what a difference thaT WOULD MAKE.

the problem with this thread is , u forget we live in a country where we should be able to say what ever and bitch about whatever we want to, too my people these days try to tell other people what and where they can say something, i as a tax payer can say what ever i want when ever i want ,that easy , you dont have to be a comp hunter to use this board

I haven't been to a comp hunt in over 25 years.

TEST

I am a strong believer that the UKC should issue a handlers hunting rules test. Once a year with a five dollar fee going to youth programs. I think it would cut down on the arguing complaining and down right ignorance of the rules. Some of my so called judges are picked by the MOH as follows inny minny miney mo there we go you judge its ridiculous. I know how to play football but I couldnt be a ref. jmo but I think it would make the hunts more fair and enjoyable.

THAT WOULD MAKE THE OTHER KENNEL CLUBS GROW IN LEAPS AND BOUNDS.....MAKE PEOPLE PAY TO TO TAKE A TEST TO HUNT AND GET WHAT IN RETURN UKC HUNT NUMBERS ARE DOWN NOW DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT IS THE ANSWER......KNOW THE RULES WHEN YOU GO AND LET THE OTHER GUY WORRY ABOUT HIMSELF IT WILL BE TO YOUR BENEFIT.....

Posted by boda on 07-28-2009 10:07 PM:

You people that want to test comp hunters. I imagine you want to test the youth hunter also????!!!Sounds to me like you are trying to cut back your competition, not improve the sport. Why is it that most of the users of this site don't use their name? Could it be that you don't want anyone to know who is saying dumb things???

Posted by on 07-28-2009 10:27 PM:

If there was 1/10th the argueing in actual hunts that goes on here, nobody would show up. I hunt in maybe 10 or 12 hunts a year anymore, my dog hunts in maybe 30 some per year. I haven't had an unpleasant cast this year and neither have any of the younguns that handle for me. Not one.
If my hearing was normal I would hunt 50 per year myself.
Message boards are created for discussion and argument. That is why they exist. Hunts have a completely different purpose. But both are plenty enough fun.

I enjoy a good competition hunt but would never pass up a good pleasure hunt to attend one.

I've been in about 35 casts so far this year... and have only been on 1 that was the least bit frustrating. Maybe the hunters in Michigan are just easier to get along with?

You might be right Chuck but if guys would leave UKC because everybody knew the rules, then the other Kennel clubs can have them. You might be suprised at how many come back ! I think it would be in everyones best interest to know the rules. Yeah you would still have those that would cheat and try to bend the rules at all cost but at least for the guy just getting started or out there to have a pleasurable hunt, it would slow down some of the tactics of the cheaters no matter what. I dont see any reason it wouldn't cut down on the argueing alot of the time. Rules are there for a reason and the more people that know them the better off the nite hunts would be for the honest person. I admit that I dont know the rules well enough to judge......yet! At least the guy carrying the score card should know the rules ! Dont you think? I just dont see how everybody knowing the rules and the youth benefiting from it is that off the wall terrible. JMO

cj. - I may have to start hunting in Michigan.... thats pretty good odds !!!! LOL

And by the way boda... if you knew how to read you would have seen that my name is in my stupid post !!! Maybe thats why your against a test !!!! Sorry.... maybe you overlooked it !

My post was just a thought.... every good idea has to start somewhere!!!!!!

I Like it.You will find that you will get "cheated" less the better you know those rules.I have nothing negative to say about it,I have fun for the most part. But I do it to have fun,I want the win as much as the next guy but I don't lose any sleep if I lose.

No doubt these hunts are enjoyable and i go to normally two a week BUT have experienced wayyyyy to many hunters that are clueless when it comes to the rules. And you know its something because there not difficult at all if you just take 20 minutes to look them over. What gets me is most of them will stand there and argue for 10 minutes having no clue what their talking about but that doesnt stop them. Amazing aint it

Ive been in a few. My biggest complaint with UKC is that once a dog is "finished" theres really no reason to keep hunting it. Hence the reason my dogs are usually titled in the other registries as well. Im not a professional "handler". I much prefer to hunt my own dogs, dogs that I personally have seen go from know nothing pups to coondogs. That is what it is all about to me!
As far as knowing the rules goes, I know em well enough that I usually get asked to judge my cast. Ive found that the better the people in the cast know the rules the less problems there is!

Competion: Hunt 1 Akc and uselly 2 UKC everyweek. I would say I've probably been in 60 to 70 cast this year and haven't had one of those nightmare cast yet. But I'm way over due!!!
