If a person would do some serious investigation, I would bet that there could be a number of Nite Champions and Grand Nite Champions that are stone silent ever though the rules and breed standards call for an open mouth dogs.

they need to put some of the bench dogs in the hunts and see if they meet standards of being open trailers lol. I hunt treeing curs so i prefer a tight mouth dog.

I own a gnt silent dog might open once on a cold track but thats no more of a fault then a dog that don't shut up-to me
quote:Ukc says it apparently. Since they say silent dogs are scratched. Then they don't have a rule about barking a lot. I don't like a barker myself but that's ukc's standard I recken.

who says thats not a fault, lots of real coon hunters will beg to differ that opinion. i love a true trackdog, but despise a slick babble'n idiot, most of these bark'n idiots can't do that rite if there's not another dog for them to bark behind that fines the coon. it amazes me they punish dog that trees the coon and reward ole barky.

Any dog that locates with a long drawn out bawl could be opening on track before treeing. I hunt a female that is very tight on the ground and when she throughs that bawl alot of time her first bark if you are close you better not tree her because she will move sometimes up to 100yards. If you are a half mile away you can tree her on it because she is going to be treed close. Does this constitude opening on the ground? and if you answer no than if we are standing close and I stike and tree her on that bark and she moves 100 yards are you going to minus me for moving 100 yards? Sure you are because she is opening on a track or coon scent anyways.

how many dogs are in each cast?
How is it that a dog that runs dogs is not a fault when a tight mouth dog that opens on nothing but a coon can be scratched for it. I know it's hard to win with a tight dog but I would much rather have one than a barking idiot. A good honest strike dog will take last strike more times than not these days!
Mleck, if your dog only opens locating and treeing she is silent on track, she should be scratched for being silent.
To me it don't make sense. If a dog don't open but is running the coon that dog gets scratched but if the other dogs follow that dog and open up they don't. All they are doing is treeing with the silent dog
silent dog!
Real easy strike em tree em! Lol prove he didn have all four on the ground when he started locating! Lol! Love it

Is that what you do? How do YOU do that???
1) I WOULD HARDLY CONSIDER 100 YARDS TO BE A LOCATE!!!
2) I'M PRETTY SURE THE NUMBER OF FEET A DOG HAS ON THE GROUND HAS LITTLE TO DO WITH WHETHER OR NO THEY ARE TREED!!!
Silent
Odds are anyone knows whether or not a dog is silent on a track before they ever go to a hunt. When you know that a dog is silent on track sooner or later some one is going to question it. Rules are the rules, the whole problem can be solved by looking up in the top right corner of the score card, HONOR RULES, thats what I'm refering to. I know a lot just plainly don't care, because this is the mentality this day and time; It ain't cheating unless I get caught Not everyone even considers being honest these days. Are you one of them? UKC rule book explains it all
ok guys
Dont get all bent outta shape i personally have only hunted on dog that was semi silent he would give ya a few before he located but he was a truely one bark tree dog and prob best "coon dog" i have seen to date i was just tryin to be funny u guys get all worked up about things that are really no big deal if ya got a good strike dog just go beat em. O ya he wans't silent if he was runnin somethin fast
!
