Two grade B&T's, littermates. Females name was Trim and the males name was Dan. It was along time before I knew most dogs wouldnt stay split treed within hearing and sight of another one crunchin on a coon shot out to them. Either one of them would.

B&T guys dont get too excited, they were B&T in color but they were out of a blue male and a b&t gyp.........one of her parents was "spotted" (read walker)

After that was a snow white, silent male, out of Dan named Butch. He was a hide treein machine.

Old Spot, he was half running walker, half redbone and the longest gray fox race I ever heard him run was 14 minutes, Spot was a bobcat, fox and coon treeing machine, you could jump a full grown bobcat out and give it a 3 minute head start and old spot would retree it in less than 10 minutes on DRY (not snow that made it like running a hog) GROUND.

spot was a tree dog secomd to none.

The first young dog that made me say wow was a 11 or 12 month old walker female out of Spring Creek Black Jack. I decided I wanted to buy her, and found out she hung herself in a fence shortly after I hunted with her. I was a teenager and couldn't afford her in the first place.

I guess I have been doing this too long because I do not get impressed by one or two really good nights. A dog has to earn his or her wow now by performing night in and night out.

A "track drivin', coon treein' machine"...

I've never seen a dog that I felt was the total package. Wessel's Wild Casey made me say WOW a few times and he was a special hound. Our Sky dog has made me say WOW a few nights but she has some bad nights too.

I've probably seen more dogs make me say WOW in a negative way than a positive way. Dogs that are all hyped up or dogs whose owners brag 'em up and then you see 'em go and they're complete chiteaters.

A Redbone female named Robin owned by Josh Calhoun in South Carolina about 30 years ago.

A B&T female named Queen, owned by Keith Collins of Macks Creek MO.

When Queen was on, she caused the jaw to drop of alot of people, people that know a top dog. A man that had won the UKC world hunt with a Walker had a standing offer to buy her if she was ever for sale. She scored 1100+ in south Missouri, and not on feeders. She also won 1st place NtCh at B&T Days one year with a good score. She had a combination of bad track moving and coon slamming ability that doesn't get put together in one hide very often.

I thought Id seen WOW untill I hunted with Brian Downings, "Downings Mighty Magnet", then I knew what WOW really was, he was the complete package, Magnet II was a WOW dog also, but fell out of a tree & broke his back on a hunt at just under 2 years of age,

Monte Gusse has shown me afew WOW dogs.

Jeff Nelson's B & T's would make you say WOW more than once.

My dogs, most would make me say WOW, I can't believe a dog can be so STUPID!

my grandpap's airedale/b&t... barney. nite in and nite out that dog never missed a coon. i knew he was something special one nite when we went out with him and there was another man there with two of his hounds. his dogs took off up over the hill hammering. barney wouldn't hunt. as soon as those dogs got out a ways on the deer they were running, barney went in and treed 3 coon on 2 separate trees about 25 yards apart. he went back and forth treeing on each tree for about a minute before going over to the other and treeing until we got there. bar none barney was the best dog ive ever seen in the woods to this day and that was about 17 years ago when he was around...

I've never seen one that made me say " WOW ".
I've seen alot that would make me say " UGH ! " though. LOL
Maybe I was spoiled. I was raised with some pretty tough hounds.
I have had people tell me that I expect too much out of dogs because they're just dogs. LOL
I have owned 2 that satisfied me , and have seen about 10 others , but none that would make me say " WOW ".

I was very happy with the way both my hounds worked, then I hunted with Burton's Southern Blue "Boss". On a two hour hunt, he treed nine times (seen 14 coon in those nine trees), while my "Reno" me too'd him like a dang puppy. Then three months later went out with him again (had Boss, Reno, and 4 (4) month old pups) and one of his pups split treed with the meat about 200 yards from where the rest of the dogs were treed. Tommy (the dogs owner) walked out about a mile and a half, then drove home about 7 miles and returned with a gun to shoot the coon out for the pup. The pup stayed treeing the whole time he was gone.

a walker dog by the name of gr nt ch..gr ch..gr fd schultz's huck a buck-tuck..he was one of the finest coon dogs alive in any breed thru the 1980's...you could run bear or coyotes all day with him and take him coon hunting at night..and he never ran a off track coon hunting..and he would not tree a coon while bear or coyote hunting..he was one of a kind..donnie schultz from marshfield,wi owned him..and he was a heck of a reproducer...

Bellar's George W, no matter how many times or where you cut him, he will be treed underneath a coon somewhere. Probably still one of the best I have ever had on the end of my lead.
