Advice
What’s one piece of advice you would give to a beginner? One piece of equipment that is essential?
How did you get started when you began hunting?
You need a light, a gun, a vehicle and an old coon dog that someone has retired or not hunting. Get permission to hunt some land and go hunting, take a buddy or 2 and just enjoy being out there. The old dog will teach you. DO NOT GET A PUPPY OR NON STARTED DOG. Have fun. Jr.Steelman
Like mentioned above get a older trained dog or very well started dog.if you have coonhunters in your area talk to them some guys are willing to help a newbie out and some are out there to take advantage of you.
2 you need a good light but dog is the 1st priority.
3 I got started coonhunting going with my uncle when I was very young.
Good old dog, Light, 22 rifle. and a dog lead, don't need big fancy dog boxes, thermals and you don't need the most expensive light on the market either. you can decent ones on amazon for 40 bucks that's what my kids use, and they work great and easier on the pocket. after that you and some buddies go out and sit on a log and enjoy the sound of the hounds working a good track.
