We have a older female that rolled in. On tree the other night and dominatley face barked a male dog no fighting or growling she has never done this before. Has anyone else had this problem before

It’s actually a lot more common than you may realize. A dog that face barks will instigate a fight at some point when it face barks the wrong dog. It can be either an act of aggression or defense. Some dogs do it as a result of having been treed with an overly aggressive dog. Some do it because they are overly possessive of the tree. Some dogs do it to dogs that run the tree or jump and fall back on to other dogs that are treed with it. Either way it is not something you want a dog to do for many reasons.

It can be the result of genetics or learned behavior. Either way, sooner or later a dog that face barks at the tree is going to eventually end up in a dog fight from what I’ve experienced. That being said, my guess is that a person that knows how to utilize a training collar correctly could perhaps break a dog from this nasty habit. Personally, I wouldn’t keep a face barking dog.

I won’t keep a face barking dog either for good reasons not to keep…

Face barking is easy to fix. the last two pups I started were bad about fae barking. Neither would attack or bite another dog, but when they treed together you would think they were fighting. Call Wild Willy.
