Need Advice

I have a young male b&t (16 months) that I have been hunting regularly (3 nights a week most weeks for 3 or 4 drops) since the beginning of October so that makes about 30 nights at this point. He is bred as well as a dog can be. Has been hunted with solid finished hounds with no bad habits. Showed a ton potential in the yard working a caged coon and turned loose coons. But since I have been hunting him in the wild he has really stalled out. He isn't working a track or treeing with the other dogs at all. Is always around the tree when they park but never up on it or showing any interest in being up on the tree. I tie him up at every tree to keep him from milling around and pet him up good trying to make the tree a happy place. Once a coon has been knocked out he chews on the coon and and show interest at that point but that is the only time. When hunting he has his nose down and stays busy but doesn't open. I don't want to give up on him but he isn't giving me much to be optimistic about at this point. If there is a silver lining he isn't any trouble when hunting (leads, loads, and handles) but usually a dog will start to give you clues that they are coming along. Haven't seen many just flip a switch a start doing it. Any advice other that patience? I have already committed myself to hunting him til the end of kill season before making a decision on him? Is it worth trying a few more caged coons? Dont want that to start a bad habit of him using his eyes to tree instead of his nose though.

No more caged coon, keep him tied up at the tree and let him watch the other dogs get rewarded with a coon. Don't give him any off it at all and just walk him away from it. After 6 nights of this if he don't start showing more interest it's time to move on
