it happens. common enough so there's a fancy word for it, coprophagia. Google "coprophagia in dogs" and you'll find more than you want to know.

There's a product for pet dogs called 4-bid that you can feed to them that may help, but she may be doing it because she's sick and not getting enough nutrition. or because you were feeding a high protein food while she was pregnant and the stool still has nourishment in it, or because she is having psychological issues--with a gyp who lost her litter, it may be because she thinks she's cleaning up after imaginary pups.

usually, if a dog hasn't been doing it then starts, it's because she isn't absorbing enough nutrients because she's sick and is hungry. check her temperature, and check that the stool looks normal, no blood.

I had one who ate it in winter when it was frozen and wouldn't touch in summer. Just had to make a point of cleaning up after him. It wasn't a pretty habit, but it didn't seem to hurt him.

I would have her taken to the vet and checked for a uterus infection.

my male will chew on it in the winter only. Prefers the cow pies though. Looks healthy, I think he does it out of boredom. I worm him spring and fall and doesn't seem to bother him so I let it go.
