Breeding Question
I know they say not to breed females on their first heat cycle, but I was wondering if there is any problem with breeding a male too young. How young is too young? I didn't know if might cause any problems like increased aggressiveness. Any advice is appreciated.
God Bless
With some id say no way. But if you have a non aggressive type male you should be ok. In fact thats what every houndsmen should try to do. Ive got a male ive bred at about 2. It never made him cocky at all. My advice would be once you breed him put him up for 2 weeks let him forget all about it.

I been thru it twice will little problems but if I had to do it all over again I would swab the female with cotton balls when she's ovulated and get the male interested with that and draw him off and AI her. If in doubt on timing breed her twice. I think it gets into a young male hounds mind more times than not when you hunt them with females after their bred natural at a young age. In UKC, I'm thinking a male has to be at least 10 months old before they will recognized a litter from him. Females have to be older. If in doubt either way,AI'ing is the way to go and it's very simple to do if you have the tools and easy to learn! JMO! Good luck either way you choose to go,Danny G.

Thanks for the responses, I plan to let him get a little older, but was just curious about the possible "side effects."
