No ryhmm or reason..I just use whats handy that I gather to add denning areas along with food in feeders ..we dont have gamekeepers or managers much around here for any animal to keep check or enhance property for game..just users and takers for the most part.

A coon will live about anywhere.

Dave I had an old hollow Silver Maple fall down last year. I cut it up into about 5' sections and ended up with about 4 of them.

Then I charred out the inside like you would a barrel, to preserve them. Next move is to put plywood on top and inside and then punch a hole in the side with the chainsaw. I figure I made four den trees.

I will get some pics on here sometime.
