Training a Pup
Getting an 8 week old treeing feist and need some advice. I've trained beagles on rabbits, but never feists on squirrels. I'd greatly appreciate everyone's training tips and tactics. Thanks in advance!

I train all the basic things to a pup when they are young like ,come, stay, load, lead, use to a gun, kennel chain break, then expose them to as many wild squirrels as you can because the more woods time they get the better the chance of them making a tree dog, most people will take a 5 month old pup out 10 or 15 trips and wonder why he is not treeing, the main thing is do not give up to quick because it may take a lot of trips and he may be up to 1 year old or older but if he is going to make a squirrel dog he will show you, some pups start early and some will start late one of the best dogs i have ever owned never showed any interest until he was 14 months old and never looked back from that point and by his third kill season was unstoppable.
Good luck with your pup.

The Moleman has given you good direction. The only thing I would ad is to look at the pups PED and see what the family tree has produced. The price of a pup is the cheapest thing about the venture. Good luck with your pup. Dave
