Abscess on side of face
got that a dog that about every two years he has an abscess come up on the side of his face in front of his ear. its get about as big as a golf ball, when you drain it looks like a lot of infection. i have to get the vet to go in and cut its out each time but they have no idea what causes it and why it does it about every two years. didnt know if anyone has ever had an experience like this with a dog having something like this happen
snakebite? Might be a old one

Had a dog get one that had infection down in her ear drain down and cause an abscess. Another possibility is infected salivary gland. Or coming from the teeth.
Luckily meds and drain took care of it and never had a repeat instance. I was warned if that did not take, she would have to have surgically to take care of it.
Matter of fact, I had surgery yesterday for an abscess and infected sweat gland. 2nd surgery since January.
Sometimes when meds to do not work, they have to be dealt with surgically, and sometimes even then they return and has to be dealt with again surgically.
Same with dogs.
buckmaster, does the dog get the abscess the same time of year each time......For example, when it happens, it happens only in the summer. Or does the dog get it at different times when it happens?
There is definitely an underlining problem that would keep causing the abscess to keep returning.
cant say for sure if its same time of year will have to check records but its every two years i know that. i know draining and med dont touch it though comes right back
