Show Bench deminsions

I have started working on showing my dogs and I have a crude bench that I am using. It is a countertop on two saw horses. This is too high for the dogs to jump up on so I have to give them a hand. I would rather create a more realistic environment of what they would have in the show ring though. How tall are benches at the shows? Do handlers have to completely let go of the dog while the judge checks them out?

Thanks

Jamie

the "recommended" dims are listed in the book and in the rules on this site. but it depends on where you show whether you will get a recommended bench or a long solid bench or one with indoor carpet, no carpet, outdoor carpet. Whether they lean downhill and you have to set the dog up so they are level, cause if you dont then they are leaning! If the dog can jump in the back of the truck you shouldn't have any trouble getting them to jump up on the benches you may run into. Oh yea, dont forget about the wobbly ones that only dogs with sea legs can stand on w/o shaking.

Dogs must be benched. The bench on which the dogs shall be shown must be two (2) feet high and eighteen (18) inches wide with the top covered with indoor/outdoor carpeting or some similar non-slip surface. Individual benches of a minimum length of 44 inches are recommended. If the benches do not meet these standards, the Judge shall still allow the show to be held, but should instruct the club to correct the problem and notify UKC that the benches do not meet the standards.
