-- Registering a dog with disqualifying faults? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=498226)
Registering a dog with disqualifying faults?
Does the UKC have a written policy regarding this? I know it says they won't knowingly register a dog under these circumstances, but the dog is eligible for an ILP numbre (I agree with that).
What I'm wondering is if there is any provision to discipline a breeder who knowingly registers a mismark or DQ color puppy for a permanent registration (keeping in mind that altered conformation is a regular class now)
Specifically, I believe it is unethical and not in the best interests of UKC or our sport to register a "silver" colored Labrador as a Chocolate Labrador? Doesn't this present a mixed message to the people purchasing these puppies?
AKC actually has a provision to discipline individuals who act in a manner detrimental to the sport of purebred dogs. Wouldn't intentionally registering & breeding dogs with disqualifications fall into that category?
I understand that not all DQ's are apparent as puppies, but mismarks and color certainly are. Shouldn't theybe dislosed as such, and permanent registration denied?

You would have to send in a written, signed complaint to us telling us all of the details surrounding the situation, as well as copies of any supporting documents you may have. Send it to the attention of our Complaint Department and they will look into it from there.
Thanks for the reply, the problem seems to be mostly with AKC, but I would like to point out that you occasionally have classifieds posted advertising "silver" labs.
Perhaps you could require a disclaimer that the puppies are not an accepted color and should not be given full registration.
Apparently breeders who register with UKC are MORE Responsible than others-it's a credit to UKC that the few ads I did look at were upfront when asked about the color and did state that it is not an accepted color, as opposed to some other "silver" breeders who throw out mounds of technical genetics, further claiming how "rare" and "special" the dogs are, and charging premium, without ever mentioning that the color is a disqualification.
It would be really nice to see UKC be proactive on this issue. It would be another example of differences between other registries.
