Very bad night last night.

Took one of my pups and my old 11 year old dog last night just before the storms.

It started out OK, pretty quick strike, the pup ran with them. They put it in the ground and went on hunting.

The pup ran something, don't know what, but he ran the hair off something LOL. I was happy at this point (didn't hear either of the old dogs runnin it so it wasn't a coon).

Then my old dog, for whatever reason, was hunting deep and just up and decided to go across the river ON THE TRAIN TRUSSLE.

Over 100 feet in the air, only the track so she could have fell through any time, and it is about 1/8 mile across or farther so she would have been dead if a train came through. It took her a little while (maybe 5 minutes seemed like forever) to get across.

She was deep so I don't know if she ran something across or what but I held my breath watching her cross on the Garmin (was already looking for her at this point, she was out for an hour and was deep).

We had to drive around and find her.

I have no clue what happened or why. She has never done anything that stupid in her life and at that particular drop when she gets deep and close to the railroad she hits the river bank, hunts back toward us and comes treed beside the river (which is what I expected.). I never in a million years would have expected her to cross a trussle like that.

I'm just glad to have her back safe.

A friend of mine was hunting on the River months ago, & his dog did the same thing, except a train come through while his dog was on the trussle ! The dog either jumped off or the train knocked him off! It cut his tail off & when he landed below he hit his head on something cutting a big gash in his head! The dog did ok for a couple of weeks but had to finally be put down!!!

My heart was in my throat reading this... I'm glad we DO NOT hunt our own dawgs... I think I'll be perfectly happy to hunt with friends hounds! Have had a stressful week here so I'm touchy at the moment... BnT had surgery to remove a small growth on his back... I was in on the surgery which was cool... till the vet and I decided to dissect the cyst before sending it off to biopsy...LOL.. Burst all over the 2 of us! LOL... NOT smelly at least! The tumor was cool as can be if you are into that stuff like me... Ended up a benign and uncommon hair follicle tumor...OK.. SO That Dawg has a HUGE incision on his back AND... Has to REST???? This is a coonhound! LOL... ANYWAY... the bluedawg ends up with diareahh and is on meds... they can't go out together or they'll play... they hate to be seperated so they are being MORONS... LOL... AND.. doesn't my beloved bluedawg stand up a few minutes ago...and he is 3 legged! HELP! OH... but that isn't all... a fox has come in and slaughtered 6 chickens so far and we can't get the sucker yet... AND my oldest indoor basement cat was dying in a kitty bed for three days and FINALLY fell asleep for good last night... SIGH...

Yup... reading your hunt had me near tears... Thank Goodness it ended well! I needed that... now I feel like TODAY will be a better day?
Give your old girl a pat for me and tell he NEVER to scare you like that again!
