need some advice
I have a 2 1/2 yr old gyp that has a bit of an issue. she is a great trail and tree dog. she will stay put on tree as long as i walk to her. i road hunt her quite a bit and when she trees, sometimes it is better for me to move the 4 wheeler down the road to get closer to her. when ever i crank it up and start moving, she quits chopping and leaves the tree and comes back to the road and starts hunting again. as long as i keep the 4 wheeler parked and walk in, she will stay. this seems to be becoming an issue. on the up side, anytime i cant get to her due to water or thick briars or whatever, she will come back to me. this has proved to be a lifesaver on more than one occasion. anyone out there got any ideas?

Move the 4 wheeler closer to her at the begining of the hunt. Let her get use to it comeing to her instead of her going to it. Just follow her around while she is trailing for a while and she will learn that it will come to her. I move my truck a lot for the same reason. That and if I have a pup that is bawling in the box it teaches them not to come to that pup. If they do they get put in the box and the pup gets to go hunt.
They don't make that mistake very many times. LOL
That would be another thing you could do with yours. If she comes in and you have a box on the 4 wheeler. Put her in it and get it close enough she can see or hear the other dogs at the tree and make her miss the tree party.

In my opinion, you have a dog that is picking up a lot of self-inflicted bad habits that will be tough to change, i f you don't address them now. Do you have another dog that will stay treed when you move the 4-wheeler? If so keep them together until she learns not to leave the tree; you may have to scold or adjust her a little bit to make her understand that you want her at the tree, not on the road looking for you. It will be easier to accomplish this, if you have a dog at the tree; she'll figure out fast where to go. On the other issue, how long will she stay treed, before she comes looking for you? Tom

walk in tie the pup up, then go get the 4 wheeler and see what she does thats another option.
