Need Help with pup!

Need Help with pup!
he's 5 month old and he'll run a rabbit if he sees it he'll trail it. bark on trail and kill it.. and he'll run a house cat. but he wont tree anything!! he's a 6 month old english redtick. any ideas why??

Let him grow up.

If he will run a cat, get the cat to tree and the pup be able to see the cat in the tree. Shake the cat out to the pup. He will get the idea of where the scent ended is in the tree.

I would do that but runnin house cats is illeagal? in Arizona. Any other suggestions??
