Bobcat Down

The story as told by my brother:

Well I drove up to the cabin, because I've always wanted to hunt cats. Jon (jharry) and I located this cat about a month ago. We were unable to run him with the bad weather that blew in & couldn't find him.
Well I walked in scouting about 1.5 miles that morning & cut this track, Got lost & walked out to a snowmoblie trail. Boy was that a long walk around back to the truck. Then I am waiting for my dad & kevin to show up. Well my dad backs his truck into the front of my truck. Then my 1187 falls into 24" of snow with the action open. Great start.......wonder I didn't pack'er in right there!

So we headed in with Nip & got setup. I knew this swamp pretty well from hare hunting. Got the guys setup & I walked Nip in on the track. This is the first cat she has ever smelled & the track is quite old by now. Got her to finally commit to the track & we had a cat on the move in minutes. Came out the trail & sit on the side of the trail @ 79 yards form a guy. Then crossed out. No shot. Headed for the creek. About 10 min later she is showing treed on the Garmin. I am at a full run........I get to the creek & she is 157 yards across the creek still showing treed. Get across the creek on a tree & kevin says that he is almost to her. Still showing treed. Must of seen kevin & bailed. I see her go to 200 yards on the garmin moving......then 3,4,5,6 hundred yards all the way out to .6 of a mile. Circleing around back toward the trucks. Shots ran out & hear we have a blood trail, but headed back to the swamp we jumped him in. Got over there & Checking the tracks had 2 cats running back into the swamp. Made sure Nip took the hit cat & I headed in with her, thinking he might bayup or something. 2 circles later shots rang out & hear that the cat was coming back in toward Nip. Circled around me & headed for the cut in the swamp where Dad & Kevin were at. Shot rang out & kevin had ended the race when he jumped up on a blowdown.
What a hunt!!!!!!
Kevin was just standing there with Nip & Cat when I got there.......No one was saying a word. Then I tacked him like a line backer & the celebration was on.

Guess Nip was thinking.... showed these greenhorns how to yote hunt, might as well teach us to hunt cat now.........
There had to be some beginners luck in there with this one. I kept cutting the track & trying to see If she had switched to a yote yet, but she didn't & ran him to the gun!!!

They never weighed the cat at the state sealing, like we thought. We didn't have a scale up there. I would say its in the upper 20's easy. She was quite thin but a real long & tall cat. They estimated her at 3 years old.
Nip had 5.8 miles on the Garmin
