any ways to break a dog besides shock collar??

Yes but none are as easy on the dog.

Find a road kill [preferably a fresh one] wrap a back leg in wire and hang it on an electric fence when the dog is four or five months old and let him find it all by his little old lonesome.. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
