kinda confused???
hey im confused. the other night i let my eight month old pup out on a caged coon with a couple of other pups. when the coon got up a tree we turned all our pups loose. my eight month old female ran the track really well but when she got to the tree she just located on it and shut up. when she located all the other pups whent to her and she just didn't say another word. is there any suggestions on how i could get her to want to tree??
Play with her with a coon hide until you get her really worked up and then throw it up into a tree.Make sure you rub it on the tree to get sent. What has always worked real good for me is to take her out with an older dog and knock a coon or two out to them.Dont let her get chewed on by the coon that young.Tie her back and drag the coon around the woods a short distance, rub it on a tree, throw it in the tree and let her loose.Try that and see if you have any luck.

dont overdo the cage--
dog may get so it thinks the cage is the deal--
if pup located that coon by scent--- u got it made--
i wouldnt trade that for a pup that trees hard by sight - or tears cage apart-
try her again , a few times- not all in one day -
-once isnt a big deal
cage coon twice a month-- is plenty--
best to train one pup at a time --
pup not treeing at 8 months --- is nothing to worry about--
some pups may tree at 4 months and some at 14 months - - no difference between them as finished dogs -
soon as pup can tree a released coon alone----
get her in the woods- where coon are thick-
if she is not treeing by hide season--- take her with another dog--
tie her back , let her watch when you shoot the coon down -
she dont tree- she dont get any --
take her back out alone -
cant push pups-- got to let them pull ya - lol
takes some patience-
that cage coon is just a way to get them thinking coon-- fire them up slightly--
dont take it too serious -
training pups is the wrong term anyway--
i can train them to come or load up
, i cant train them to hunt- lol
i cant train them to tree / or at least i wont lol
i dont think you will have to train yours to tree -
probably needs to get a little older and a little more confidence -
expose them to game as naturally as possible and let instinct take over is all I can do
-
maybe better to train less and hunt more -- lol
leave the other pups at home, the more meat you put out
to her the tight she will get
