just out of curiosity why would the ukc close new registerys for american eskimos?

The UKC didn't close it, the National American Eskimo Dog Association voted to keep it closed. I believe the reason is that the Association feels they have enough breeding stock they need not go outside for more. Sally, if you're online, would you address this?

AE studbooks

The UKC AE stud books are closed, by vote of the membership/board of directors of the national parent club, until 2025. A parent club such as ours requests that the stud books within the registry (UKC) be closed when enough variation in the gene pool exists within those registered dogs (and their progeny) to be assured that the breed will be viable and sustainable and without significant inheritable deficiencies into the foreseeable future. At this time the NAEDA believes the number, quality, and variability of the dogs in the UKC AE gene pool is great enough to protect and preserve the American Eskimo as we know it for some time to come. Knowing the membership of NAEDA and it's board of directors as I do, I just do not see an issue of any significance large enough at this time to expect that a review of this issue would take place prior to 2025.
That having been said, let me assure you the lack of UKC papers on your dog does not make that dog any less loveable, any less a joy to own, any less an Eskie! There are many unregistered AE's, all of whom are making huge contributions in the lives of their owners and families. Should you desire to have your dog neutered/spayed and to do UKC performance events, you can obtain a UKC ILP # that would allow that dog to compete. Sara can help with that.
