Why is it ok for cats to run free but not dogs?

It sucks doesn't it?

We "used" to have tons of cats that ran loose all around this area, but they mysteriously dissapeared.

cats are excellant to train pups with just dip them in coonscent and turn them loose lol just kidding.
i like cats that are contained and well taken care of, but will get rid of any cats running wild they upset the natural balance of nature when allowed to run loose as it is with any introduced animal not native to an area.
my coonhound also agrees with this thought there isn't a place they can hide that she won't search and destroy
