Diamond Extreme Athlete

Thinking about trying it. Need something with no corn. Give me some input and some opinions. Thanks Heath

Posted by Virgil on 10-17-2012 12:43 AM:

Good feed. Only feed in the Diamond line that I like. Don't have to feed much of it at all and the dogs will do great on it with minimal stool.

I quit feeding it after the latest Diamond recall and went back to Purina.

It's the feed I feed & no complaints....r u guys amazed or maybe it's just me how many different brands of dog food that is out there...WOW...

Before you start a threadl like this, why don't you do a search? Diamond EA has already been decided the most wonderfull est sack of ------ feed ever . Every week, same old same old thread and it never gets deleted. Diamond EA is the very best.... period.. end of story . I had to post this in case the new next newcomer next week thinks about decididing to pose the same dang ole question but decides to do a SEARCH first.

For the thousandth time. Diamond EA is supposed to be the very best. And it has NO CORN !

Personally ,id cull a limp wristed pup that could not share my cornbread but that is just my opinion. I might have to go diva for a lobster to feed IT and drown myself trying. LOL

EA dog food

Lots of laughs for me on this post.

EA is all we feed our walkers and all the dogs that get trained at our house.

The laugh comes from all the types of dog food there are, and all the types and combinations my sweetheart has tried in the past!
I keep saying "honey PLEASE, can't we just feed EA???" LOL.

So we like it alot, our dogs seem to get too hot on corn based feed.

Also I want to put in a BIG GOOD LUCK to Rex Morgan as he heads down to Garnett Kansas, for Plott Days. I like Rex a heck of a lot, even if he does hunt Plotts!!! GOOD luck and keep Travis in line!

Good, but not the best

I use, and really like EA well. It is not the CORN factor that hooks me the most, it's the fact it is the only product Diamond makes that is fairly consistent, yet I have seen a little inconsistency in it.

I really believe Native level 4 is the best feed on the market. I simply can not justify spending over $10 more per bag for the same weight in feed.

As far as the CORN COMMENTS from certain folks on how it is fine, I don't like the idea of a hound that can't eat CORN either, but what is the purpose of feeding athletes something that is non digestible, and adds absolutely no nutritional value to the hounds???

Extreme Athlete is hard to beat for the money , few dog foods deliver what the label says they will .. but EA does.

I've had a few bags that were off color or had a stink to them , but it didn't seem to bother the dogs ... and most local feed stores carry it , which helps alot .

Posted by CSnowgren on 10-17-2012 08:52 PM:

EA is a good feed. I have found the need to supplement on all the different feeds that I have tried anyway. Yes, even on EA I have supplemented. It isn't the best feed out there but when you see those that claim it is....keep in mind that they are speaking in the context of price. For the price, it is hard to beat but it is not the best. I like the fat source of EA but have found the need to give the protein source a kicker here and there. But, I can see many that could feed the EA alone and it be totally adequate.

I'll say this, I'm feeding one third as much EA as the Purina I was feeding and they are still gaining weight, you do the math. One third of thirty bucks equals ten bucks plus I get a full forty pounds vs. twenty three bucks for thirty seven pounds. It's not rocket science, you tell me which is cheaper?

I'm not saying it's the best feed available, but it's the best feed in it's class and price range cost per pound versus results. A working man can actually afford to feed it.

Maintenance feed. Not near enough fat and protein for a hard working dog. Probably good enough for the show folks though.

A dog will overheat regardless of what type of feed they are on. Including Victor. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

my point is,alot of protein is NOT always best!! dogs can heat up from TOO much.

will never feed diamond.way too many issues.

Would like to feed EA but just at of my price range right now. 40 dollars a bag. Naturals will have to do right now, I have to say though my dogs do pretty good and keep weight on and I hunt around 3-5 nights a week.

I feed 2 cups a day to this 75# male. How much are you feeding with Black Gold?

Alot of feed will make dogs fat and shiny , but there is no real muscle underneath.

When you switch feeds or thin them down ... the fat comes off and they look rough ... you gotta give them time to build back the meat that was never there and get rid of all the gut fat.

Change doesn't happen overnight ... kinda like waiting til' the last minute to start taking care of a nursing bitch or a competition dog ... those dogs have been lacking nutrition their whole life and you can't change that foundation with a single sack of dog food.

No doubt about what some folks see , but without the education to know why you're seeing it ... it's not the whole truth.

Um, not totally accurate but I know what you are saying. Poor protein will cause a dog to run hot quicker and strains the kidneys. If it is good protein from a top source, you can pack the protein in a dog and never have an issue. On some cheaper feeds, the protein source is just as poor and can cause problems. A dogs biochemistry has evolved from high protein diets and can handle it quite well. It is when you throw in the cheap crap that you start to see the problems. Dirtdevil's last post touches on it somewhat. If you are working a dog like his hair is on fire...A LOT of protein IS best. Most folks can get by on a straight, average priced feed and be just fine. Native, EA, Black Gold, etc. I have personal opinions on most of them of course, never fed the Native though. I wouldn't feed Black Gold if you paid me, regardless if they support hunts or not. I have never decided my dogs diet based on what the company supports. lol
