That's IT, I've had all I can stand.....
A couple of weeks ago while out coon hunting, I managed to twist what little I have left of my right knee. I'm used to wrenching it a little, having it hurt, swell up.....and I'm forced to take a night or two off from hunting.....
Well, this time, I must have done it up right! It's been WAY too long since I've let loose of a collar and sent a dog in to get treed....
I visited the doc today, and they are gonna go cuttin on my knee after he gets back from his vacation....(seems I'm the lucky SOB that gets to be his first victim after a week off)....
In the mean time....if you see some old man hobbling along side the road, with a dog on a lead strap....stop and give him a ride...he'll appreciate it.
I'm gonna turn one loose tonight come hell or high water...anybody ever hunt on crutches?

Dang that sucks Joe...I hunted on cruches about 10 years ago lol...Watch for those stump holes and such!!!!!!!! You will bust your butt...If I was closer.I'd cut them dogs for you..
Ive never hunted on crutches... but almost put someone on crutches in a hunt.
I've hunted with a ruptured disk. The dogs got some serious obedience handling I hardly ever use a leash anymore.
knee
Celebrating my 7th week of post surgery tomorrow. Had a lot done on my right knee. I started back hunting 2 and a half weeks after surgery. Could not go every night for a while and still doing rehab. Get you a stationary bike and start working that knee a few days after surgery. The 3rd day after surgery is the worst all the pain meds wear off. Good luck!

Josh,
I'd be tickled to death to find a kid that was the slightest bit interested in hunting....anything other than a bean bag chair and a PlayStation 3!!!!!
If I could find a kid that was willing, I'd outfit them with all the gear...all the dogs, all the pop he could drink, and all the little debbie cakes he could eat while we are out hunting....and shoot, he might even learn a few things.....
Ain't no such critter in these parts....

Joe,
You better hunt those "Little Patch Woods" I keep talking about and hope those Whitey dogs get treed in them and not go out the back lookin for a dark spot......then you got problems with this mud! LOL
I had a dog a couple years ago right up your alley. She would hunt those little spots and report back to the truck like clock work.
Take care and good luck with the leg!

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice!
I'm not that far off from being a kid (28), but I just can't understand the mentality of "kids these days". When I was younger (excluding 16 to 18 yrs old
) I lived and breathed hunting and fishing. The nights dad took me things were the way they ought to be, I was in heaven. The nights I didn't get to go, for whatever reason, it was like my world was crumbling apart right before my very eyes, I was devistated by definition. Even though I knew I'd get to go tomorrow night, it didn't matter. To this day, I still remember my first hound. I'd coonhunted since I can remember, 5 or 6 yrs old I suppose, but never TRULY had a dog of my own, MY DOG. One night, when I was 14, I was awakened by my bedroom light being flipped on, my dad walks into my room and places a 8wk old walker pup on my bed. Just like that, I had no idea, I guess he just decided I was ready. To this day, that ranks right up there as one of the best moments of my life. That dog made me a coonhunter before I even knew there was such a thing as a competition hunt.
I'm sure somewhere near you Joe, there has to be a young kid just like me, at least that's what I'm going to tell myself
Doc told me I need both knees replaced, but since I am so young 27 I would have to have the surgery 6 to 8 times before I die. I know it is painful, cause my mom just had it done. So I just take a crap load of anti inflamitory's Mobic is one. Good luck with it.

Joe
I feel for you man.
I blew my knee out a few years ago and yes I hunted on crutches. It was about this time of year and there was still about 10-12 inches of wet snow in the woods. I didn't plan on going to any trees, but ended up doing so. My cousin(who is a bear hunter mostly) went with me to retrieve dogs for me. The first tree we made I drove within a few hundred yards of the tree and I pointed my cousin in the right direction. My cousin can only hear out of one ear so he can't tell direction very well. So he heads off towards the dogs and pretty soon I see his light headed off to the left of were the dogs were. So I started in on my crutches and almost beat him to the tree. We still laugh about that one.
So I can understand your fustration. Have a good time tonite and try to be as careful as you can.
Jared
well joe say you come get me over here in NW ohio im 13 and ill do your hunting for ya
I have had 7 operation's on one knee & have unfortunately hunted on crutch's more time's than I care to recall...LOL!!
Just gotta be careful & make sure there's a lil sumthin solid under them before ya rock on. Be prepared for an occassional wreck though. I found by learnin how to stop drop & roll properly it don't hurt to bad
!!
As they say,"Where There's a will there's a way!!
I learned a long time ago that trying to fall will hurt you much more than just taking the fall!
I'm an expert at falling down...just ask anyone that has ever hunted with me.
There are two things for certain when you go hunting with me.....
#1. We gonna have lots of pop to drink and some "snacks"
#2. I'm gonna fall down before the nights over.

Joe, in all of the years of playing football,
I never had a knee problem. Then a year ago in Feb. I tore both knees up the same month & did it the same way both times. I was stepping up out of a ditch about knee deep both times, & my leg that I was pushing off on, to step up on the bank slipped backwards. Tore ligaments & cartilage in both, bad enough that 2 different Drs. told me that I needed them operated on. After I did the second one, I layed up about 2 weeks. My oldest son told me about GLUCOSAMINE WITH CHONDROITIN SULFATE & I started taking one tablet every morning & evening. In about a month I started feeling alot better, even my lower back pains were not as bad. It's been a little over a year now & this is the best that I've felt in 6-7 years. I have also slowed down when following the dogs, & going to trees. Now I can go hunting 6-7 nights in a row, weather permitting, & I'm also thinking about starting to get back to Compition hunting on a regular basis.
Whether you get them operated on or not, I would sure start taking the Glucosamine tablets.
