Rule on Shock Collars in Nite Hunts
I run a shock collar on my hound during a hunt and very seldom do I have to use it but what if I need to hit the beeper on the dog to get him to come back in during time out but I know the rule says you can't use them till hunt time is over. I don't see the problem with using them during a timeout simple reason being my dog will come back to me if I hit that beeper on his collar. Just wondering why UKC won' t let you use the beeper on the shock collar. I know some will misuse them and that is probably why.

Don't you think you would have a huge advantage over the other cast members that don't have shock collars and have only 1 hr to retreive their dogs and you only have to punch a button to get your dog back?

If you use any electronic method of controling a dog during a nite hunt you will find yourself subject to barring.
Even during time out.
josh you are just talking about shock collars..correct
yes
I think that you should be able to use the shock collars during a time out.

?
I dont see how using a shock collar to help you retrieve your dog gives you any advantage.
If what you are saying is true, then they might as well get rid of trackers also because not everyone can afford one of those either.

i think most of you guys that disagree with the shocking system in a nite hunt are directing your opinion towards dogs that run trash. that is fine with me, i agree... however, what if the dog is headed in the direction of a major highway and timeout is called for safety of the hounds? wouldn't you like to use the shocker so your top notch dog doesn't get blasted by a semi???

I have seen entire casts get scratched by the hour rule.
It is very easy to train a dog to come back to you using a shock collar. If that isnt an advatage, I dont know what is.
I assumed everyone knew tracking collars dont controle a dog, just tell yo the direction to walk.
the only reason i asked you that josh, was because i was on a cast a couple of weeks ago and the judge tried to scratch one of the handlers for having his tracking box with him...he was under the impression that the tracking box was included..

I know that you cant control a dog with tracker, but based on what you said earlier "Having the $ for a shocking system shouldent allow you that advantage in a hunt" I would think that a tracker gives you an advantage by allowing you to locate your dog in order to retrieve them before the hour gets you and not everyone can afford them so why should there be an exception for trackers, Based on what you are saying.

The problem with allowing shockers during timeout is that you would then be carrying the unit with you and that makes it all too easy to use it while the clock is running. No one can use a tracker without everyone noticeing you are useing it but a schocker can be kept in your pocket and no one would know you pushed the button. I have seen a handler use the shocker to make his dog break the 6 with a yelp by pushing the button on a Dogtra unit which is no bigger than a pack of ciggarettes. I figure that is why the shockers are not allowed to be used until the hunt is over, it would be too easy to cheat.
It wouldn't bother me a bit if shockers were outlawed completely for the hunts.
They are a training device and if your dog isn't trained to leave junk alone, behave himself around other dogs, and come when called, he ain't ready for a hunt.

you could still leave the box in the truck and go get it if you need it. I just think that you should be able to use them during time out.

If the only dogs hunting in nite hunts were the ones that were ready for the nite hunts, every club would be broke.....
well that is good and bad.but what if you were at a hunt not in your back yard and the guide tell you that he will not help you locate your hound, and you have the winning scorecard?your hound is(you are out of town at a hunt)treed in the middle of a beaver swamp,on top of a mountain,or anywhere it is bad for you to walk?durning a timeout they should be allowed.i have seen this and have help guys get through the events and where was the guide at home no help at all,he is mad because he lost.

Break them dogs to come to a whistle and you wont need the page button on that transmitter. I saw a guy rig the guts of a Shock collar in the nase of his back-up light. It didnt have as much range without the antenae, and could only be used on one inten sity setting but he claimed it came in pretty handy sometimes.

What if your dog is running a deer and time out is called. It gives you an advantage to correct your dog before the next dump. Plus would make it easier for you to catch your dog. If your dog is running sh@$ why should you be accomidated to correct him during the hunt? A hunt is to prove who has the better dog competing that night. Your dog should be est. before the hunt and if you put a shock collar on him I bet he he is know to do something he shouldnt.
