I went to buy dog food and the priced had jumped by about $8 for a #50 bag. I have been feeding Diamond. Anybody else seeing this jump? Is it all brands? What is best value?

Thanks for reading,

Doug

I just picked up Victor dog food for $23.95 for 40 lbs bags & think this is a good price for very quality dog food.....Diamond like Purina is pricing there selves out of business in my book....

Sure do hope Victor makes it to Illinois, I would really like to try it.

i get my feed from willard, ky. its sexton brothers 26% paid $17.00 a bag so i bought 2 tons which last a year. the guy maid it for his foxhounds so if its good for them its good for coon dogs. been feeding it for at least 20 years

wow that is expensive, .60 cents per lb. 50lb bag would cost $30!!! i will go straight to Pro Plan if i am forced to pay that type of price.

Posted by rick grivetti on 11-20-2012 05:18 PM:

Wow..really Mizzou....Pro plan is is near $50 a bag & that is cheap...hmmm bout $1 a lb....is that better than .60 cents a lb...Victor is a meat based food not corn...Jmo

Posted by rick grivetti on 11-20-2012 05:26 PM:

Actually pal I stand corrected...Pro Plan isn't even a 50 lb bag so it's even more expensive than I thought....

Posted by eaglecrkennals on 11-20-2012 05:47 PM:

That is $17.00 for 50lbs 26% protein

At the Sams club I shop at the price on Purina Dog Chow was up almost 3 dollars a bag since the last time I bought a half ton. I did notice that Pet Smart had specials on Purina thru this week and maybe longer? But the Purina Pro Shreaded Lamb / Chicken was 14 bucks off normal price of $ 44 the Pro Preformance was 2 dollars off normal $44 bag and Prurina One was like 5 bucks off its normal price as well as canned Pro feed was at $1 can as opposed to it's normal $1.50.

I expect it will keep going up when you are out shopping think about fido and look for deals they are out there at large stores.

I used to feed Purina & still have several of those $7 off checks but after a lil research I found out it's over priced for the quality of food it really is....I know they promote alot in our coonhunting magazines & we have hunts in their name but I just like my dogs to much to feed em it....again this is just my opinion...thx Rick

Mr. Grivetti if you aren't going to use those 7 dollar checks, I will give you 2 dollars for them and we will call it right and I will pay for shipping. Not being a smart azz, but I have feed alot of different feeds over the yrs, but always come back to Purina, mainly because of those $7 checks and it is trusted feed for me.

I use reg Dog Chow on dogs that get hunted mildly, and for the ones I hunt reg I use a combo of 1 part Pro Preformance, One/Pro Shreaded, and Chow, and I buy it where ever I can get the best deal on it, price per pound that is.

On alot of the dogs that haven't made social statis or worth here at the kennel, expecially this time of yr I have I mix Chow and Pride high end or the black bag of 24/20. I have had great results on both feeds and all my dogs look really nice on it. Yes I may feed more of one than the other but I regulate my dogs on many factors and what I feed them.

IMPO you can't go wrong with Pride or Purina products regardless of which it maybe or mixed with. I know the reviews say one thing but what I am feeding and the way I am feeding it works really good for my dogs, my budget, the time of yr it is and the way I hunt.

Alot of the feed that are out there are not easy accessable to me or I am not willing to try something new so I shop wisely and I never neglect any of my dogs on feed or hunt time.

If anyone sees a good deal on the Purina products at national pet chains please post. I will stock up while I can still aford to do so.

you got me currious so I went and checked

Dog Chow 50 lbs @ Sams Club
Purina One 44lbs
Purina Pro Shreaded with a 10% more feed marked on the bag 38.5lbs
Purina Pro Performance 37.5

@ Pet Smart Purina Pro Performance was 2 bucks off the normal 44 the Pro Shreaded was 14 bucks off the normal 44 ONe was 5 bucks off its normal 38 dollars.

Sams Club Dog Chow was right at $24 a 50lb sack, which is much higher than it was the last time I bought it there it was right around $22 a 50.

PetCo may be offering the same deals, just wasn't one around in the town I was at or it was out of the way, but I know for every $100 you spend they send you discounts as well thru there store which along with the 7 dollar checks well....every little bit helps and keeps these old blues tails a wagging.

I didn't notice an increase in the Pruina High end feeds, actually they were much cheaper due to the Holidays and the Purina and the Store were running specials.

So I found some Victor in the state I live in, it is quite a drive to get it but I do go there from time to time for supplys of one sort or another. What is the protien/fat content on the victor feed that is 23.95? Heck I will give it a spin as well. I have heard that most folks that feed it really like it.
