as a matter of fact your a little backwards the english breed is a much older breed than the walkers and walkers came out of the english breed
here is my opion if you can't find a worthy mating within your breed than you better change breeds.
cross breeding does nothing for any breed first breeding may produce an outstanding hound but where do you ge from there by cross breeding you have opened the gene pool wide open'
look at any real good producing hound and i will say 90 percent of the time you will see a linebred hound.
now why is this,it's because your breeding from a close gene pool
with more predictable results.
i believe each and every coonhound breed has sufficent above average individuals that would enhance a breeding program without going out of the breed.

The Hooch dog advertised in CB is Half Walker, Half English. There was a big topic on that some time ago.
Then I know of the Timber Cutter stud dog was also being bred to Walker females.
I can't see doing that myself, but to each their own.

try it what other people think ? your dog you feed them good luck keep us posted
Only Prob I see is that you must keep the entire litter or keep them very close to you and make sure their all trained in the same Manner maybe write up a schudule that you want other Trainers to follow .. Now you will get alot of nearly stright walkers depending on the actual % of Walker your male already has in his blood.. He could have alot or carry alot of Walker that will Come out when bred to a Walker Female.. Why keep the whole litter because your going to be looking for the pup that has the Most English trates but also has the Highest Hunting Abilities aswell.
No matter what the Walker will be Most Dominate thru out the Litter.. Their will many Common Treeing Walker Genentics in the Male and Female that will come to the Top.

My major question is why? is there something extra special about the female that you think the English breed needs? Cant you find an English female with those same traits? People years ago hunted crossbreeds...mostly because that's what was available to them to breed with. They didn't have the Internet, some didn;t even have the magazines to help find good stock, so you bred to what was there regardless of breed. I think you'll find that some where coondogs...alot were junk, and some of the coondogs became coondogs long after they were dead if you know what I mean. I would say try to find a nice English female to breed your male to, there are a ton of nice females available. I you must breed to the walker, be sure you have people in line to take the pups as they'll be hard to find homes for. Also, try to plan for a small litter. That's my 2 cents.

why???
When you look at the dogs available out there I can understand why. There comes a time in any breeding program when you need a serious outcross to help stabilize the mental well being of your dogs. Now normally, it would be done within the breed, but sometimes you see a dog that really has a lot to offer in your opinion and if it isn't the same breed, oh well. I just made an outcross on a Walker female with a Black & Tan, everyone asked why I did that, what does he have to offer the Walker Breed? He has nothing to offer the Walkers, however, a little Walker won't hurt the B&T in the pups. The last time I tried a cross similar to this it produced one of the best dogs that I have had the pleasure of feeding, that one was Blue over Black. Since then, I have stuck to the "purebred" dogs, even though I have a B & T female with a white stripe on her chest, wonder where that came from? Maybe the B&T people will want me drawn and quartered but I bet that these pups will make the kind of hounds that people will be proud to own and hunt, and odds are they will be good looking too.

Their nothing wrong with Fokes who believe in a Specific breeding to work together in their training and Pup progress this is the only Scale inwhich to evaluate the true Success or Dimise of a new Breeding .. and What does it have to do with my "High Dollar Cross Breeds Anyway"

Just find it funny that your crossbreeding mixtures of different coonhounds with bloodhounds and offer a high dollar price for them yet telling someone who who is thinking of making crossbreed cross he should keep his litter.
Seems funny not to practice what you preach.
Example-
First Time Breeding
Saltlicks Maggie May" X "Saltlicks Tree Chopper
Yet you have the pups for sale. 10 born and your keeping 1.
Like I said, your advice is funny to others who want to cross-breed.
We always keep some from each litter and Test each and every 1st time Breeding, We have interactive Web site for each litter plus have a monthly Call list that we track Progress of Pups Also why we are so picky as to who gets a pup from us.. Pleas read my Ad for big game hounds..

I'm not even sure why Steve is on the UKC message board. None of his dogs are UKC registered, or are even accepted by UKC as anything other than cross breeds. He should be barred if you ask me.

The guy who started the thread plans to breed coondog to coondog.
It's still a crossbreed litter, why should he keep the litter and then you sell the litter on a 1st cross as well?
Like I have said, just funny the advice your giving and what your doing.
Seeing as this is the first time you have made this crossbreed cross, and you posted your opnly keeping 1 pup, your advice to me just goes out the window when you do not practice what you preach.
