Sure, you can just pack up and go home if you want.

I have seen guys winning a cast and withdraw because the hunting was just too close to roads.

As far as dryholeing, there has to be a coon out there somewhere...

Sounds like I just need a dog anybody got one for sell? I've heard the term dryholeing used many times down here and you got to understand we ain't got the woods u boys got so if you hunt all night in hardwoods and then move out to a pasture with no trees in it for the last 20 minutes of the hunt then you you just got dryholed now how do I get around that some with some experience answer that

I DON'T HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THAT BUT i WOULD SAY LET THE DOGS PUT ONE IN A HOLE OR GO HOME. There are a lot of coon in pastures. I wish I had more pastures to hunt. They will run and give you a good race.
If you want to do any thing about it though. I think the only thing you could do is get enough land that you can be a guide.

Sure that's realistic. A dog that just keeps going and going kinda like the energizer bunny, going going going.. But wait don't you have to hear youre dog before you can strike it and tree it?

A dog 2 miles in the country sitting under a coon is useless. Dogs can't invent coon.

Well to answer the question, no there is nothing you can do if you don't like where you are hunting except withdraw and leave your dog in truck. As far as I know, it is not a voting situation. The guide has sole disgression.

Amen to that too. And to add to that now you got this old judge and he can't barely here you ten feet away and you expect him to hear your dog 2 miles away, come on . Should we start haveing a hearing test before we let people judge.

You know what's going to happen, he's going to say he can't hear your dog put the time on him minus him and now he got u. Your out of the hunt cause he can't hear. So it's best for you to withdrawl and walk two miles to go get energizer bunny by yourself before you get left in the woods in some strange place. Hey these are real situations that are going on down here that need to be dealt with. All this started cause you got dryholed.

I was always under the understanding that you did not have to turn your dog lose where it would be in danger of a busy road, and if they told me that i would have to scratch my dog we would go back to the club to the MOH and try to get another guide

It could be considered dangerous if you have a tree happy dog. It might run itself to death before it finds a tree. LOL

If you scratch your dog the only place your going is home.
I dont think you have a choice, you turn out where the guide tells you or withdraw.

Buck Brush, I would never tell anyone to scratch their dog. And I have enough hunting that if anyone is not comfortable with this place, we can easily go somewhere else, no problem. And I might very well be wrong but I believe the answer to the question remains, you hunt where the guide puts you or you don't hunt. I have never seen anything covered by UKC that says otherwise.

Josh first off i would not scratch my dog i would do what Okie dawg says and ask for a cast vote.

MR JIM i do not care what UKC says there is no one guide or judge thatr can make you turn your dog lose where it is a danger to your dog and the handler, Allen is the first one that says it takes some common sence, some of us have it AND OTHERS DO NOT if the guide does not have any place elese to hunt then we would go back and get some one that does.

one of the last hunts i was in i was told i had to turn my dog i a little woods that the toll road runs right behind it we went some place elese i did not scratch my dog.
if that is the case that would be a sure way for some people to get cast wins on there dogs just pull up and say this is where we are huntting and when the others do not want to then you scratch them then move to another spot and be by your self.

Only 2 ways to dry hole someone, either put them in a spot where the dog is likely to be in danger, or in a spot where a handler's physical limitations may force them to withdraw.
A spot might look like a dry hole to you but maybe the guide's best honey hole. A good dog might still show you a coon no matter where it is cut loose.
It is the guide's responsibility to take you in an area where the safety of dogs and handlers is put before scores.
If they can't do that or won't do that, I'll let the club official know about it and will choose another club to attend next time.

Sorry but there is no "common sense" rule in UKC.

The cast CAN vote on it being dangerous, but if you don't have a majority saying it's too dangerous then you either have to turn your dog loose or be scratched because if the majority says it's OK then on that particular night it is YOU that has the problem (or me as you will see below).

I know the rules pretty good but I have scratched my own dog for the same thing. You hunt with folks that don't have a deep huntin dog and they might not honestly understand why you think it's too dangerous. If 2 of them are willing to turn loose there, well then I am just out of luck. Had it happen before.

Also know of it happening one night that as soon as one person withdrew the judge "changed his mind" and went and turned loose in a safe place, clearly abusing this. He got away with it but it was dirty.

i would also file a complaint on them that should have been done RIP on the night you talked about, it all goes back to people trying to play the game to benafit them and there dog, if a person puts up with it they have no one to blame but there selfs, i have been at this Comp. hunt game for 40 some years and have yet to have a person not move when i said i did not feel good about turning my dog lose some where.

I'm still looking for a dog that can invent a coon cause maybe then I could win a cast. You could have a 4 dog cast and 3 get scratched for fighting and I would still find away to loose. I got some great luck.

You are absolutely right about that. I didn't file a complaint when it happened to me because I feel that those guys honestly didn't think it was dangerous. They were right, their dogs didn't hunt deep and they were just fine. I would have been crazy to turn loose there that night cause they wasn't stirrin and mine would have kept goin and been in danger. It was also "the only spot I got left", and I believe the guide cause they hunted there even after I withdrew. It was an honest disagreement on safety, or rather them knowing their dogs and me knowing mine. I had nothing to be mad about unless I found out later he really did have somewhere else to turn out.

On the one that SHOULD have had a formal complaint filed, the way the rules were at the time I don't think they broke any, and nothing would have came of it at the time. (If it had have been me it would have pissed me off so bad I likely would have filed one anyway knowing nothing would come of it but just to get it out in public back at the club LOL). That was many years ago and you couldn't prove that he really didn't "change his mind". Now with the new rule you might could nail someone doing crappy stuff like that cause while no rules were broke it sure was dirty to do that to somebody.
