Coonhound Bloodlines Staff ???

I see the "NEW" leopard hound is going to have a entire issue of you magazine dedicated soley to it each & every year!!! As a Plott Owner I take this as a slap in the face from UKC, we can't have a issue of our own but a " NEW" Cur dog gets it's own issue..... Plott people do not deserve to be treated like this by the UKC & Someone needs to explain or I'm done with the Coonhound Bloodlines............. We have to share a issue and the 3 or 4 story limit with all the big game houndsmen & women of the entire US, Every Bobcat, Bear, Lion, Boar Hunter, but the dang leopard cur deserves it's own issue over a breed that has been with UKC since 1946??? This is degrading to my breed, & I will never advertise or subscribe again if something isn't done to right this wrong!!!!!!! I have ran several ads through the years & been a constant subscriber since 1988 but will not renew if this is the stand UKC & the Coonhound Bloodlines is taking & you can belive I will tell every plott person I see about it as well.......

I have to agree on this one.Would also ad the combine of Plott /Big game also gives the impression that the "plott" is the only big game hound.

I agree with you.

I'd like to see the Plott issue and the big game issue split up but I can't blame UKC for putting them together. Plott folks don't do a very good job promoting they're dogs. Usually just a handful of breeders or stud owners run an ad, even worse since they merged them.

Look at this Month's Bootick issue. Those guys do a heck of job promoting the breed. Lots of ads.

I have a feeling this will be a one year deal with the leopards. I doubt they'll be promoted any more than the Plotts and after the first year they'll be lumped with another issue.

Same with the events, I doubt you'll see any more Leopards at the events than we do Plotts. I have a feeling that the majority of people feeding these dogs could care less about competition. But I think it is great they those who would like to compete now have the opportunity to do so. I'm sure that will open the doors to lots of newcomers to the breed that will invest in some leopards and will promote them in UKC.

I AGREE.

I THINK THAT EVERY COONHOUND BREED SHOULD HAVE A MONTH DEDICATED TO THE BREED.

THERE ARE 12 MONTHS,
7 BREEDS.

IT WOULDNT BE THAT HARD TO RE-ARRANGE THAT MUCH. MAYBE THEY COULD BREAK IT UP LIKE THIS: OR SOMETHING CLOSE.

JANUARY - YOUTH ISSUE
FEBRUARY - TREEING WALKER / WINTER CLASSIC / GRAND AMERICAN
MARCH - ENGLISH - SETW DAYS
APRIL - BLACK AND TAN
MAY - BLUETICKS
JUNE - REDBONES - WALKER DAYS
JULY - PLOTT
AUGUST - LEOPARD
SEPTEMBER - AUTUMN OAKS
OCTOBER - WORLD ISSUE
NOVEMBER - BIG GAME ISSUE - IN THE HEAT OF BIG GAME SEASON
DECEMBER - BREEDER/BENCH SHOW PLEASURE HUNTING

Agreed! If all the other breeds get an issue then the plotts should too. Anything going to be done to rectify this problem?

CB Issue Themes

We certainly see your point and will take it under consideration, but there are a couple things I would like to comment on. Back when gave the English Coonhound their own issue (they previously had been in the March issue along with the results of the UKC Winter Classic), and combined the Plott and the Big Game issues, it was for two reasons. One was that the Big Game issue was not supported enough to have it stand alone. It seemed a natural fit to include the big game supporters in with the Plott issue, as so many Plotts are multi-purpose dogs and used on several species of game.

Someone mentioned in their post that there is an article limit, but that is not accurate. We would never short change the Plott people at the expense of the Big Game people, and vice versa.

We will look into what can be done, but do ask your patience. We don't want anyone mad at us.

Posted by P.W. Chapman on 05-01-2008 05:26 PM:

Just something to look at as far as # of ads in the breed issues...

I looked at the most recent breed issues of the largest breed, the smallest breed (2nd smallest now with the leopards included), and one in the middle (Black and Tans -- who now have 3 breeds bigger and 3 breeds smaller than them)

Number of ads (from quarter pages to 2 full pages)

Treeing Walkers = 49
Black & Tans = 32
Plotts = 13

I know...I have too much time on my hands lol--- my kids are testing and I am bored!

Impressed with the # of B&Ts for there numbers. There is a whole bunch more Walkers out there.

Disappointed in the Plotts, seems like there used to be a lot more Plott ads.

Wonder if the Blue boys got more ads in than the Walkers....

and more importantly, other than looking at the pretty pictures---

WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE ANYWAYS LOL!!!!!

So February will have to be as BIG as a JCPENNY catalog??? I quit taking the Bloodlines because after Feb. , I really don't care about the others and I know the others don't care about Feb.

FEB WAS THE ONLY TIME TO FIT THOSE TWO BIG HUNTS IN.

Where did you see that it was going to have an issue each and every year? My guess is that since they are new to being a hound, then yes they will have an issue done for them but if UKC doesnt get many adds on them then like the Plott they will get bumped or combined the next year. If you dont like that Plotts dont have their own month then lets see more interest in them and more adds.

I'm out of town at Black & Tan Days, so just had a chance to look over this thread. Vicki answered it just as I would have. Obviously we're always happy to take into account our customer's opinions and make some changes accordingly. Moving around issue themes is a big change as it affects deadlines, so it's something that needs in-depth discussion by the staff.

If anyone happens to be attending Black & Tan Days this weekend and would like to discuss this matter in person, I'd be happy to. I will also be at Plott Days in August and would discuss it at that time as well.

Thanks!

Theres a whole thread on this in the blue classifieds... I think it's because it's a GOOD picture of a bluedawg showing they are versitile... It is the magazine for Coonhunters AND HOUNDSMEN.... not coonhunters exclusively...
Not meaning to argue with you at ALL, David. I can see why some might be upset by it...but its a Gorgeous picture of a bluedawg who also coonhunts.

HappyHunting! Heather

PS... post some more pix of YOUR bluedawg...wouldn't mind seeing that one on a cover some day! NICE looking dog on those trees!
