I'll make a deal with ya- you let me bring my dog there and tree those coon, I'll shoot 'em, and you can have them. Deal?

Posted by Trapper4life on 12-05-2007 06:00 PM:

Well there isnt a tree within 15 miles but you can give it a shot

Posted by Majestic Tree H on 12-05-2007 06:06 PM:

I have a Island that I hunt and it has 3 of these areas, One is on a leaning live tree that extends over the River and about 4 ft. out is where he Dumps out.. Another one is where 4 trees have grown out of one and they use the area in the Middle about 1-1/2' in dia. and is now about 3" deep in Crap the last one is where a huge Cottonwood tree Died and is sloping and at the top of that is the Dump area... Most of these areas are used by a Very Slick Boar Coon.. We have treed him twice but only using an Ambush method ( My brother has two hounds on led and when my hounds start to run him on the Island then my brother releases his two at a point where the coon crosses off the Island.. Took us awhile to figure him out for Sure.. His Den is on the Mainland and he feeds on the Island. And Slick Slick Slick when he's running..

This is the Truth Our Largest Legal leg hold trap when set for a Beaver can not catch them, Exp. on a rear foot .. Most Braver Rear feet are actualy larger than the Trap Jaws.. And if you catch on a front foot they can just pull out and leave a little hair..

This is a number 5 duke mine are all victors but you can see its not a bear trap mostly used for coyote and beaver i have held a skunk in 1 so I dont see it being a factor on a big bore coons path normaly i would go with a 220 on a good trail but like i said I have all them set Im just going with the inventory i have left I agree a 2 would do the trick maybe I have had alotta coons pull out like it was a mouse trap I dont know how big your guys coons get but i havent got but 4 coons under 25-30 pounds this year but then again this place hasnt been trapped in over 10 years anyway i look foward to havin this coon in the number 5 within 3 days if it dont work ill wait until i get a 220 that isnt producing any hide.

Posted by Trapper4life on 12-05-2007 09:15 PM:

I know it takes a strong trap to hold a beaver or atleast a newer trap then what i have they have pulled out of my number 5s or set them off with there belly i dont know which now i have 330 water sets he has stuck a stick in 1 of them i swear every time i go there at night he is down in that hut laughing at me either that or he is so cold his teeth chatter i dont know i put the dive sticks in but i dont know if i have them set right i never imagined a beaver was so smart oh well ill just keep trying surely ill get 1 of them sooner or later.

Posted by Loren Simpson on 12-05-2007 09:54 PM:

Just find some river otters if ya think beaver are smart.

Oh they big fish eaters I take it thats to bad they dont think about stuff like that before they do it.I would send the bill to them in the mail to restock the pond.

Posted by mjflores on 12-05-2007 11:00 PM:

Trapper, do you have hounds? I never hear you talk about coon hunting, just trapping and deer hunting. Where exactly are you setting these 220's? If you dont mind me saying, I think 120's, 220's, and 330's should be banned from every state in the US. As far as legholds...there's not a coon ever born or alive that will pull from a #2 leghold.

Posted by Trapper4life on 12-05-2007 11:00 PM:

I couldnt get hungry enough to eat a coon looks to greasy to me

Posted by larrypoe on 12-06-2007 12:00 AM:

Personaly I found otters tied for the stupidest animal I ever trapped, right along side bobcats. Ive sold my share of both.

Trapper,

you sound like a kid just starting out and learning. Heres 2 tips for ya,

1) there isnt a coon alive that can pull out of a #2.

2) excessively large traps lead to broken bones which turn into wring outs.
