what goes on at a night hunt?

im fairly new to hunting with UKC, im a youth hunter so i have never been to one before, so can anyone tell me how it works? like how the points are given, how a dog can scratch, ect. any info would be great! thanks!

Points system goes 1st strike 100 2nd 75 3rd 50 4th 25. Tree points 1st tree 125 2nd 75 3rd 50 4th 25

A dog can get scratched for fighting, not hunting for 15 minutes, running or treeing off game in a nite champion or grand nite cast.

Also you can get scratched for having 400 minus points, not calling your dog, not making sure the scorecard is filled out perfect.

Go to a hunt around your house and ask for a scorecard and go home and read the back of it an also get a rule book an read in inside an out and learn all of the rules.

Yes you can. When you go pay attention to everything so if you start hunting the hunts you'll know what exactly to do if a situation comes up.

Make sure to get a rule book and read it buddy!

You need to get a set of the UKC hunt rules and study them hard!!!!

The hunters come in two categories; the honest and the dishonest. After you get started you will join one of the groups. There's nothing wrong with either group it's just the way they choose to conduct themselfs in competition. It's a pretty well fact that if you can beat the hunter you don't worry about his Dog; SO; instead of helping each other, some use every mistake to their advantage to win, and fill the world with no-good nite & grnite ch. BUT; you'll learn more about that as you advance.

Read and study the rules!!
90% of people who whine and complain about getting beat or cheated dont know the rules so learn them 1st
When I started I spectated quite a bit and then I actually started writing the info down for the judge on the scorecard then started keeping the time for the judge before I ever handled a dog I could judge a cast it made becoming a good handler easier to me

Ukc's main website has it under the coonhunting tab you can upload it and print it out.

Same thing that goes on during pleasure hunting with a few buddies. I have noticed that coons become a bit easier to see during a pleasure hunt and less trees fit the category of "circled". Might just be me though.

the best thing you can do is go with a friend a couple times an call ukc for a rule book ... the main thing is remeber wen to strike an not to strike your dog .. till the first minute is up ..and then you call your dog ...just need to go an you will leran ..an tell the judge to help you cus you r just starting so hes aware ;; if you have a good judge he will tell you what calls you have to make good luck man

Just fill out for your subcrition to the bloodlines magazine and say check that you want a rule book and they will send you one every year.

As long as you have a good judge you'll be alright

The rules are good to know; BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO KNOW YOUR DOG. YOU NEED TO KNOW EVERY BARK YOUR DOG GIVES YOU.

Like someone else mentioned as long as you get a good judge you'll be fine.

Exactly what T Felderman said know your dog every bark he makes so you'll know exactly what he's or she's doing.

I know exactly when my dog has coon or not by his bark.

I can tell when my dog is on track and on tree, when she's on track she chops once then switches over to a long bawl ten another chop then once she's on tree she's a constant chop.

that's good but b ready cus somebody might tree thr dog b 4 u do ..js make sure she will stay treed if u call her treed...if its a hot track b on your toes. 2 get ready to tree your dog .. if its a cold track wait till shes settled good b4 u tree herjust go an call your dog but u have to no if she stays treed with dogs treed 20yards away. or other dogs running track you will soon get the no how...it can b very fun .an it can b very messed up ..one bad call u can loose your cast

Also like someone else said when you go pleasure hunting with friends act like its a hunt take a scorecard keep score. Run the time and everything make it like a hunt and do that a few times and then you'll be ready

Just hunt her and have patience. If you enter a few hunts and don't win don't get dishearted just keep hunting and you'll wins will come in a roll.

I hunted in about 10 hunts before I won my first one then it seemed like I got on a roll an i won a bunch

She's still a pup right now, she will tree with other dogs and she split trees once down by a river bottom which made me proud. I'm still learning just like she is. Once she gets it down pat ill start entering her, she's doing a real nice job at benching right now to
