How about this Rule change

What is your opinion on everybody with the cast being able to shine the tree. You still have the first two minutes by yourself. This is only if the whole cast members agree. I would help anybody find there coon.

Posted by john Duemmer on 03-07-2012 08:46 PM:

I would be in favor of that change.

if you cant find it with 1-4 lights it most likely aint there!

the spectators are not handlers or have any say so in a cast...

rarely do i see a coon scored outside of the first minute or so...but i dont competition hunt much with the leaves on..

and could be seen as "an unfair advantage" to casts without or with less spectators...

id say leave it alone...they spectators are allowed to shine after the tree is scored...

i would like it and another rule change that should be made is being able to squall when shine time starts no matter what.

Both PKC and AKC allow spectators to shine and I have never seen or heard of any problem coming from it. I don't really care either way but I flat hate it when this rule is ignored as it is so often today.

I agree with jim on this. I have seen this rule overlooked 10 times more than I have ever seen it enforced. So my question is.... why have the rule? Please spare me the "it's not fair" response. Life is not fair and neither are the hunts. My problem with the rule is it is rarely enforced and when you do enforce it you are seen as a jerk or trying to gain an advantage as a judge. JMO.

i think they should allow thermal imaging cameras. then, you could find the coon real easy, no more den trees becaues you could see the coon bawled up in the tree... jmo, mike

Exactly!
There are two rules in UKC that are sure to brand you a scumbag if you enforce them. One is the spectator shining rule and the other of course is the squalling rule. And God forbid you should ever be so low as to expect a kid to follow the rules, that will get you practically burned at the stake as we saw from the discussion yesterday. So they might just as well remove both rules and be done with it.

Yep change isnt always a bad thing, Rules are just like laws if they dont serve the majority or become obsolete or are unenforcable its time for a change.

If you want the rule changed then tell your breed association. Your breed association can then request that it gets voted on by all of the associations. I to think it should be changed to as long as all cast members agree.

the only problem i have with everyone shinning is that some people hit the eyes with bright lights and make the coon look away when the leaves r on on purpose so i like to have a lil time to shine but if they dont wanna see it they aint going to any way

Not suggesting to be for or against a rule that allows spectators to shine. But...........in some forward thinking......are you going to feel "pressured" when I, my buddy and our four spectators "see" a coon and you don't?

Seems like when you allow for non working cast members to be a part of scoring procedures then you open the door for and will be subjected to their opinions also.

shining

That's the reason their called spectators, their not part of the hunt!

Posted by Rick Dennison on 03-08-2012 02:28 PM:

i like to have the first few minutes, i feel that the coon looks at one light better than a bunch. if i can't find it in a few minutes, i feel that it's not gonna look period or it is'nt there to begin with. again, it would be nice just like pkc if you could squaw right when the shining time starts, no matter where the other dogs are or what they are doing.

GOOD 1 ALLEN
OR HERES MINE , SAY MY SPECTATOR FINDS THE COON AND INSTEAD OF TELLING YOU HE TURNS HIS LIGHT UP BRIGHT AND BLINDS THE COON FOR A MINUTE SO THE COON WONT LOOK AGAIN ? I SAY LEAVE IT AS IT IS
