Kind of like a leek, only smaller, but bigger than a wild onion.
but taste milder or sweeter than an onion, delicious with fried potatoes.

the tops look just like a minature leek top.

Jim I don't know where to tell you they grow, except in the mountains. I think it's just certain places they grow, Christy lives in Franklin N. C. and they go out in certain places and pull them, I would send you some, but I guess they would spoil before they got there.

I'll pass on the ramps but most people in my area (including my husband and his family) love the things. They kind of have a garlic/onion taste to them if you ask me. I don't like either of those so....go figure. They have a huge ramp festival here and our bear hunters association holds a ramp feed each year to raise money.

Shawn, I find them in the same woods that i mushroom hunt in. look at the pict. above and find them in the woods. they usually grow in groups. pull one and if it smeels like a onion, you found them. There is alot in the woods around Mesick. Mature Hardwoods is a good place to start.
