Coon hunting on full moon nights?

Some say your wasting your time coon hunting in Kentucky on full moon nights, how rare and how much more difficult is it on full moon nights? Or is it the same?

My walkers treed their biggest coon ever on a full moon night...35lbs, they have definitely had their share of trouble on full moons also too, in my opinion it can be tough but if you have a coon dog theyll findem

Full moon is only one factor that will influence productivity if you are looking to harvest coon during the full moon. Air Temperature, ground moisture, High & low pressure weather systems, as well as their location to your specific hunting terrain at the time you plan to hunt are other factors that will (in my opinion) have some influence on your success should you be thinking about harvest only.

So in general, I don't hunt during a full moon , with two or more inches of snow on the ground, and the temperature predicted to drop to near 10 degrees or colder. In the winter, it is generally better to hunt during a full moon when the temperature is predicted to moderate. All other times of the year (it is my opinion) that you will at least have some degree of success most any night you want to go.

fog

hunting on full moon nights don't bother me and still tree coon,but its the fog that bothers the dogs the most,i will quit hunting once the fog rolls in nothing good has come from a foggy night

a coon is jus like you if you are hungry or need a drink you go to the kitchen. if you need some children or pleasure you go to the bed room. a full moon doesn't change anything.

Full moon effects coon movement ALOT here in ohio.It usually shuts there activity way down.Do we still tree a few coons of course.Jmo

It seems to me that the week leading up to the full moon is good hunting, but the week after the full moon is sometimes a little iffy.

I don't think the moon pattern affects coons as much as some think!! They still have to have water and food on these nights. Them other critters are easily seen on those nights , thats probably where the dislike of full moon nights come from lol

An old man told me they don't like to see there shadow on the ground at night inwhuch they don't see during the day !! They usually move on full moon nights in dark pines and thickets where it's dark and movement is at it's least when the moon is fully overhead in which there shadow is most apparent!! I dontknow that it's fact or fiction but what I can tell you is most everything he has said has proven to be true and he has walked behind some of the best to ever suck air !!! Wolfed tree picking bill for one !! Believ it or not it makes sense to me !!!

And they usually move every night but they will adjust the time they move according to pressure,moon,weather,time of year in the winter for a couple weeks it's terrible around here the coon are just laying out his reply to that is they set out and let there winter coat develop!

On a moon light night I head for the hollers.It doesn't seem to effect the coons as bad.Ive hunted flat ground around here in late season with a bright moon and had the dogs got a mile or 2 without a bark.Id rather stay home then walk a mile to a den tree.

if you got a coondog your going to tree coon don't know why but some dogs get all crazy on a full moon nite and some it don't bother at all i been huntin hounds for 49 yrs i think it affects young dogs alot because thier not truly a coon dog still matureing and if the coon ain't moveing good a bright nite is good for them to get on trash so i usally won't hunt a young dog on a really bright nite that way i might not let them start a bad habit that will have to be corrected jmo

Older man told me 25 years ago on bright nights to hunt in the thick woods. At that time I thought he's crazzy to leave good open woods and hunt the thickets. He was wright open woods bad track take forever. Same dog same night couble miles down the road in thickets good tracks tree coons pretty quick. Don't have a problem like that anymore its all thickets.

i think they still move during the full moon maybe before dark or just before daylight. i also think they are layed up in trees longer. i trap also and i catch just as many on the full moon.
