I dont know how bad it was at last years place but i live 40 min from olney and i can say the ticks were horrible last year around here. Only year i have ever had to check myself for ticks after mowing my yard. I think and hope it was just a crazy year for that. Also I hope with what harsh winter we have had we wont have as many ticks or mosquitos this year.

Picked
20-30 ticks off my self every night and over 100 off my dog when I got him home, took me 2 weeks to get them all off him!!
I suppose it could have been just a bad season for ticks last year, but I have never seen ticks like that before. I had to pick a few off of places the sun don`t shine. lol!!
Certainly there is some concern for getting sick from ticks!!
But it was really bad!!

Cuba put on a great hunt. Ticks are part of hunting in the South. I guess that we just get used to them. John, the trick is to spray yourself and your dog before you go hunting. I guess that you are so sweet that the ticks just loved you.
tick repellent
I made my own and used it at American Days last year worked great ,hardly a tick all three days on my dogs or me.
2 cups white vinegar and half cup absorbine half cup water. Stinks but it works.
I sprayed it on my dogs before the hunt and on my chaps and jacket. Also I housed my dogs inside the building and sprayed the stall with it. Only seen a couple ticks on my dog all weekend.
Had a nice time there even with the bugs.

Ya all
ought to come to Canada for a hunt, no ticks here that time of the year!!!
In the early 90's
we started the Canadian Redbone Coonhound Assc. and we had a couple of really successful hunts here. I think one drew a pretty good crowd. Just did'nt have enough help and I moved out West. Met O' fuzzy Kenneth Conner through the hunt we did put on!!
I now have cow tags for my dogs in the summer!!
Do you have ticks like that in TN, Richard??

Ticks
Here where I live the ticks are out in April and May, but they are not to bad. There are some all year obviously but they are only bad in the early spring.
Usually we can hunt all 12 months, usually the weather breaks every couple weeks in the winter.
I hunted in December and January, but not in Feb yet, could have a couple days ago it was warm enough.
John
I had a unforgettable time in cuba last year, only hunted one nite but I met a lot of people and just all around enjoyed the trip...ive learnd a lot since then about comp. hunting...being im not always going see what someone else sees but im not going to get bent out of shape,im going to enjoy the hunt no matter what....

If you can have that kind of attitude at all events you WILL have a great time and all those around you will as well.
In my opinion our breed days are a place for all of us redbone people to get together and make friends. The hunting title is important too but it come second or third on my list of why we have the event.
Good luck this year hope to see you at American Redbone Days.
I'll be the somewhat fat guy that stinks like vinegar and absorbine. lol

I called my vet and he said to just squirt 3 cc's (one tube) down the back of my neck and between my shoulder blades once a month. He also said to only wash that area once a month. But that won't be a problem since I only take a shower once a month.
