not to hate or anything
Everytime I turn around it seems like there's always a walker dogs winning big events. Where's all the blueticks redbones b an t english dogs at when it comes to winning big events. Or is it that there's so many walkers it makes it easier for walkers to win. I'm just asking outta curiosity not hating on walkerdogs there good looking loud voiced dogs but why's it seem like they win majority of the big hunts I'm jw.

I was just wondering why that is I mean I know there's a ton of walkers but is there a reason y they get so many wins likw by favortism or is it cuase there just that good I'm jw I'm not tryin to be rude to walker owners or dosrespectful.

There is Reason why there are so many walker dogs and there is a reason why walker dogs usually win the big hunts. They are statistically and genetically the best coonhound breed there is. Period. If you don't hunt a walker dog, you either hunt the dog cause "its what daddy or grandpaw hunted", or you just want to be different. I understand that, and to each there own. Wiith that being said, grand to grand breeding and irresponsible breeding, is declining the walker breed as we speak.

My buddy was talking to a kid that was friends with one of his daughters...he told my buddy he has a red bone and coon hunts...my buddy teased him and asked why the heck is he hunting a red bone? Good ones are far and few between...the kid said I know that! That's why I got a redbone!! When i turn it into a real great coon dog I will really have me something!!!
I'd agree walkers are bred more for competition hunting...hotter nosed...faster dogs...I can live with a slick tree here n there..I can take a long walk to a tree on a bad night....I can't stand there in the cold for an hour or 2 listening to a dog boohooo on a track...I much rather turn loose 3-5 times than stand around waiting...
I am first a coon hunter....I only competition hunt enough to get my dog the titles he deserves..I prefer a walker dog because they suite me and my hunting style...

not all walker owners breed for tree power ole buddy i like a walker dog cuz they do make em cold nosed and cam trail like no other u say they are slick just because they just so much faster than other hounds i have heard so many times he has to be slick cuz my dog ain't there and about five minutes later guess what comes strolling in to back that slick tree lol. but to get to the point the reason so many walkers win is because their owners enjoy hunting them and hunt em hard i know different people with other breeds that hunt hard but they are few and far between
English won p.k.c.world this year...

i've always hunted blueticks ever since i first started with my dad in around 1980 or so,i never really had my own dogs until just about 20 yrs ago, they've always been blue and that's the way it will stay, dont get me wrong i like em all,i'd really like too have a good b&t one day...but i've got buddies with other breeds that i can hunt with,so i'll prolly stick with my blues,i dont comp hunt and will prolly never will,it does't mean crap too me..i wanna see a coon n a majority of the trees my hounds make and if that dont happen the dogs have too goi got an older style bluetick that will peck a track too death, and that dont bother me cause when he gets treed he usually has a coon,he's kinda my buddy,i got a female that is much quicker, she's tight mouthed and when she trees u can load the gun,and i gotta pup that i'm gonna start for my young son,who will b starting hunting in a couple more years..it's about family time too me,not trophy's,i like em all.if i were to comp hunt it would still b with blueticks,i might lose more than i would win,but i would win some too....maybe,lol
Hell yeah good points all around I've always owbed houbds but never really started to hunt them till last year a friend took me out with a redbone and bluetick...which I grew up around these breed and plotts as well.... last year I went out and got me a english bluetick/smokey river mix and she's not much on coon but let me tell ya what she's my best friend and is pretty as can be. But in sept or oct imma gettin me a red bone with **** good genetics I did my. Homework on the bloodline of the one I'm getting. Imma run coon with her and try to show her and competion hunt with her as well but I know a lot people don't like rebones but there good looking dogs as well. But don't get me wrong all hounds have there top dogs and there trash dogs as well. I guess it all goes with whatcha thinkis for the hunter and what kinda dogs u like I guess.

I will say...one of the reasons I do competition hunt is for me to see what else is out there and see how the butt sniffer at the end of my leash stacks up against what else is out there...
Till I started comp hunting I never saw another breed in the woods...heck I thought coon dogs were coon dogs...dad started with walkers...we had some bad ones..we had a goodun...dad never comp hunted..I met my buddy who also hunts walkers...he got me into comp hunting...
I've been beat by 1 nice redbone...and one a bad cold night I was beat by a blue tick...my walker was making 2-3 trees to his one...but that blue dog put a coon in a tree at the end of his tracks where mine was running maybe 50/50 on dens and coons...he did a nice job...just not my cup of tea..
Most of what I've seen from other breeds just don't suite me...I've seen so-so English dogs...a nice redbone and blue dog here n there...never hunted with a leopard...only hunted with 1 or 2 black n tans and plotts and they looked sorry the nights I seen them..I know not to judge the breeds based on my little experience....especially when most everyone around here runs walkers....but I always have my eyes and ears open when I am on a cast....
I don't care what color they are...if I ever find a bloodline of a different breed that I like what I see there just might be something different on the end of my lead...
I still say the redbone is the prettiest coon dog breed there is....

Excuse me Kenny Clark, meant to say all grand to all grand pedigree, not grand to grand. coondogxcoondog is always best regardless. Thanks for pointing that out....

sorry Cranberry. wasnt trying to call u out. no offense bud. Just so much difference of opinions when it comes to what to breed to get coondogs. Really its all just a hobby , and the only ones them dogs gotta impress is the ones feeding them. LOL. But as far as whats winning Hunts, the walker breeders has went to great lenghths to breed for winners. now I dont mean , the babbling idiots, the slick tree dogs. No but a Real hound that is a plessure to hunt, and makes you feel u can win a hunt with it. Or just go out and go coonhunting with. Its not all about the hunts. You have to be a coonhunter first , before U can really enjoy the hunts. and hunting and training them dogs is what makes them. but the walkers I'm running and breeding, are bred for Desire, heart, Hard hunters, Smart intelligent , hounds that give you a chance to go to a hunt , and win. Not taking nothing away from the other breeds, because I have been beat by all Breeds. and seen coondogs from all breeds.

I disliked Walkers because they are for the most part high strung, mindless idiots that leave out, run 5 miles and tree. They ran over many other tracks in the mean time that a good Bluetick, English, etc would find and work and tree.
BUT the dog that we are hunting now is a Walker. A wonderful patch dog that checks in and doesn't go 5 miles. He is an honest dog, takes his tracks as he finds them and works them. Good track and tree dog WITH brains. He reminds me a lot of a nice English dog. He will never be comp. material, he is a pleasure hound, but then again, coonhunting for me is for pleasure and relaxing. Not chasing your dog 5 miles down the road or up a mtn. and HOPE you look at a coon!
Very best part...HE IS NEUTERED! No stopping to water every weed, no butt sniffing, no blowing, no nothing, turn him loose, he goes hunting!
