Any virginia hunters out there?

Has hunting been slow for you? Hard to find a good track here the last couple weeks in the Allegahny's.

Were

running some but action has been slow. Trees have been earned this winter. All the boars have been taking off on long runs meaning long walks. And sometimes you walk to 2 or 3 Den trees before we get to see one. I hate this time of the year seems like almosy everything goes to den trees. Late season is tough hunting. Can't wait till the beginning of march to roll around so we can start putn 2 and 3 up again every night. Right now when their mating its always tough hunting in the mountains.

same here

in southeastern Va.Been kinda hit and miss.Lotsa den trees this year too.Thought at first it was because I've been huntin' my young dogs a lot.But even when huntin' my GNC,I've treed a lot of dens.

This week, in the central VA area, we are treeing a lot more coons on the outside than we were 10 days ago. According to the "Best Time to Hunt" calendar, this should be a very good week. Hopefully, it will warm up some. Good luck!

It is Dead here !! Found a dieing coon last friday night,, The coons that are still alive just climb down walk to the closest water and then head back to the den, not looking for food at all.

Here in this part of the state we have been doing pretty good. Seeing quite a few compared to the last couple of years but not near as good in years past.

Tree'd 3 last night. We had a good hunt and had several people just going with us to hear the dogs. Glad the coon were moving. It goes through spells though. We will have a good month or two and have a not so good month.

I've got a friend at burnt chimney and they have been treeing a bunch of coon in the last two weeks. we were up there two weeks ago and made 3 trees and saw 5 coons.

I was able to get out twice this week here in Amelia/Powhatan, but never hit any really hot tracks. Made a den tree one night and finished the other night with a mile hike in to one on the outside.

Posted by vampire on 02-01-2009 01:22 PM:

It's been kind of hit and miss down here in southeastern Va. lately, but we've been treeing a few.

Posted by wayne Mcclellan on 02-01-2009 04:18 PM:

Last night was a good one. We hunted young hounds (less than a year old), struck two tracks, made two trees, and found two coons.

Tree, Sam!

I geuss

Its more or less hit or miss this time of year.

Posted by Jay Bird 76 on 02-02-2009 12:34 AM:

Had a good hunt last night in Powhatan. Hunted 2 hours..ran/treed/saw/ 2 coons. Both were big boars and ran about 3/4 mile.

Posted by littlereb on 02-02-2009 02:39 PM:

I went 3 nights last week and treed twice each night. Saw 2 coons, 3 dens, & 1 slick tree.

Posted by CRedd on 02-02-2009 05:05 PM:

I've been doing most of my hunting fairly early between 7pm and 9:30pm. What time do you guys seem to be having the best luck?
