Where is the love for the breed

I have hunted black dogs for 24 yrs. Never done much comp hunting til the last 8-10 yrs. I enjoy coonhunting whether its comp hunting or pleasure hunting. It gets so old getting on here to see what's going on and have the same one or two mostly "one" stirring up the fellow B@T hunters to the point they turn on each other. I know there is a lot of good black dogs out there I have hunted against several. Some was as good as the owner said and some would not be fed by me. But i feed what i like just like everyone else does. What it all amounts to is enjoy the breed and stop the bickering. I want to see the B@T breed move forward. That's hard to do when there is so much division in the breed. Stop telling everyone how good your dog is and how accurate. Put him in the hunts and win and prove it. I like seeing a black dog in the winner's circle. I don't care who has ahold of the lead. Make the breed proud, don't be a disgrace to the breed. Good hunting and push these black dogs and get the respect they deserve....

Well said joey. I have only been hunting b&ts bout 4 yrs, I switched from English dogs. B&t hunters talk bout drive I have not hunted with a b&t yet that has the go English or walkers have, but I was impressed by the male that turned me, why my English dogs were a country mile deep with a coon he was 2 an 300 yards left right an behind them treeing coons. An I really liked what I saw. So long story short I like that b&ts I have , have anoff freaking since an nose to tree the closest coons they can!!! Haha.

I've hunted with a few nice black dogs over the years, an hunted with some that are made out to be more then what they really are. Just like in other breeds.

Just like I said in other post. I don't think its numbers or dog power, I think its promotion, an money. I no that's why I don't go to that many hunts.I wish I had the funds to put a handler an b&t in a truck an say go go go!!

B&ts time is coming. Alot of nice ones out there.

Wow, sorry to hear. And yes that is a shame. I have hunted with black dogs for 3 years and about a year and a half ago I got two pups. Now I have a female from Don Egli. Instead of everyone being so two faced and jealous, we need to stick together in this breed. I don't know who the real hunters are on here. I thought that was the only kind of people on this forum was hunters. Todd you post pictures and your dogs are very promising. So does mn b&t and his dogs are also very nice looking. I think there still may be hope though, Don Egli sold me a dog that was 5 years old. He said if I didn't like her to bring her back, because his hunting ground was flooded and we couldn't hunt her. He said I will give you your money back. He didn't lie to me about that dog. She is a good dog and Donnie is a good guy. Just got off the phone with Bill Mack (I have been looking for another female) and he told me to come pick this female he had up all I had to do was sign the half ownership papers and she was mine. He also told me there was a youth hunt coming up and he said I could handle one of his dogs in it. He also said he has a female he wants to put in a governor's hunt that I could handle. Tell me that isn't a good guy. I'm sure there are other nice people out there, just haven't met them.

Hate to hear it about kt. But we still have to be honest about our breed. Some dogs lack one thing or another. Just like all breeds. I think our biggest problem is in the breeding pen. We breed dogs that have major holes in them. Many breed to sell pups, or to the hottest stud. I think we are on the right track but still have a ways to go. When looking back 30 years ago, we have made a world of difference. We have way more tree dogs. I think we have lost a little go power and track dogs. But overall I think we are on the right track.

It would tickle me pink to see some black dogs hitting and dominating the big hunts. In the last few years only hawk and rebel have done it and proven themselves as dominate hounds. None of us can even keep up with the dominate hounds in the other breeds. We get on here and praise an albert dog that took 6 yrs of local hunts to make grand. 6 took 6. If we did like the other breeds and breed to top winners,,,,,hawk,,,,rebel' and kilburns dogs that have proven themselves as producers we could move forward. Not nocking ang dog at all. Want to see wicks hammer dog go all the way if he will go the distance. Stick to talking about pleasure hunting or put that top dog in your eyes in the spot light. Not just on this board. Win somethinhg big with a black dog. I love to see a black dog in the winners circle. Like seeing my son on the football field.

IMO.

I don't know KT, I've heard he's a nice feller. But it's hard for me to be sad about a B&T guy quitting that got "Butt Hurt" over this message board after stirring it up. His heart wasn't in it. Same thing we do with our hounds when they don't have it in them, cut our loses and move on.

I'm not waiting for "Us" to move the breed forward, I'm doing it 3-7 nights a week with what I got out back.

i aint trying to ruffle feathers but this is my opinion.
the worst thing that has happened to this breed is the top reproducers list.i know folks that are breeding every female they can to get their dogs on the list.this is putting a bunch of worthless junk on the ground.here is an example.you got a stud that has thrown a 100 pups.10 of the pups have made grand or night ch.that means there are still 90 pups that are pleasure dogs or arent worth the cost of the shell to put them down.
if we go back old school on this and breed coon dog to coon dog.we would have better competition dogs.

agreed its even worse the way some cut corners to title those pups to get on the list . then cant name the good ones out of there own dog.
if kt quit it is a big blow for the breed. he went the extra mile to breed for better dogs. like him or not he helped the breed.

ARCHIE WALLS AND MYSELF HAVE OWNED REBEL FOR AWHILE KNOW AND HAVE NOT SEEN ANY INTEREST IN BREEDING ARCHIE HAS BOUGHT A COUPLE OF FEMALES AND BRED THEM TO HIM THEY ARE TO YOUNG TO GIVE A HONEST OPINION ON WHAT THEY WILL BE BUT OTHERS HAVE CALLED AND PMED US SAYING THEY HAVE SOME NICE ONES OUT OF HIM. REBEL IS THROWING DRIVE AND TREE FROM WHAT I AM HEARING FROM GUYS THAT HAVE OLD ENOUGH PUPS OUT OF HIM TO HUNT.


AS FAR KT GOES I HAVE TALKED TO HIM A FEW TIMES LATELY HE HAS NOT GOT OUT OF BLACK DOGS HE HAS SOLD QUITE A FEW BUT HE IS KEEPING HIS TEX PUPS AND A FEW OTHERS AS WELL AFTER TALKING TO KT HE HAS ALOT OF SOLID POINTS ON BREEDING AND I WILL BE TALKING TO HIM IN THE FUTURE.

YOu guys that like to hit the hunts and want to see a winner .. how can that happen when as soon as your dogs are titled or grown you start breeding them and hunting their pups and move on to the next generation ... if you never slow down and keep hunting those dogs and win with them before you start breeding .. nothing will change.

A working man can't be everything ... and a stud can't be a competitor , breed females and train pups for you .


About the time the good B&T's get the kind of experience and to the level to compete .. they are retired ... in their prime.

I'm like Jamie! I've been reading this post off and on and have tried to stay away from it, but I guess I just can't help it!

Here is my opinion:

1. I LOVE BLACK AND TANS!!
2. I WILL NOT OWN ANYTHING BUT BLACK AND TANS!!
3. I am not jealous of what you have in your kennel.
4. I want you to WIN if you hunt a Black dog!
5. I will shake your hand if you win or even if you beat me!!
6. I know I will never make money off of dogs!
7. I always want to have or breed for better than what I have!
8. I'll never tell anyone I have the best dog around!
(Unless I win the World Hunt!! LOL!)
9. We Don't lack Dog power!
10. We do lack promotion of the really good ones!
11. A lot of us can't afford to promote like it should be done!
12. I would also like to be able to hire a top gun handler, put him in a truck and say "Have at it"!!

It doesn't bother me if anyone gets on here and pulls their own chain and goes toot toot! They are just proud of what they have! I'll be proud for them and keep hunting and breeding what I like or go buy something else! We have to quit being jealous of one another! I say if you are winning - Congratulations! If you are trying to win - Keep Trying! Just keep pushing the BREED!!!
