Info about English Pedigree

I don't know much about English dogs but I've been thinking about getting one for a good while. Well today I bought me one off a guy I know. I've hunted with her and she is a nice dog. Good mouth, great tree dog, not ill at all. Problem is I know virtually nothing about English pedigrees. I know all the "big-time" dogs that probably everyone that coonhunts has heard about (Hardtime Speck, Bluegrass Amos, Smiths Hardtime Rocky, Swamp Rooster, Main Street Jack, etc) but I don't know much else. Would you guys who know much, much more than I do please give me some insight into this pedigree? Looks like some older stuff on here.

This little female will be 8 in September but you wouldn't know it when you cut her loose. She is a cut a hole in the dark, get treed type of dog. The guy who had her before my buddy bought her said she would check in every 30-35 minutes but I haven't seen it yet. She also has a 3rd place on her and no pups on the ground so I'm sure I'll be changing her name. I'm thinking of naming her just "Redtick Rose." Maybe I'll add the Frederick on the front but who knows.

Anyway, any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Dave Tackett

could probably tell you about most,if not all,of them dogs.Dave's been around awhile and has quite a bit of good knowledge 'bout English dogs of the past.He goes by "hardtymes" on the message boards. He's a good man and very easy to talk to.

Thanks for the replies. I'm really looking forward to hunting this little female. Here is a video I shot with my phone the first night I hunted with her. Also you'll see my buddies Walker dog. Keep in mind she hadn't been hunted in about 6 weeks and had never seen us before in her life. She is a good tree dog with looks to boot. I really like her mouth as well.

Any ideas for a good name to put on her papers? I want to keep the Rose part but I haven't found anything I really like to go in front of it yet.

I was talking to my wife last night and brought up the "Blue Boy Rose" idea. Of course I had to explain it to her since the dog doesn't have any blue on her why I'd put the Blue Boy name on her. I think that's what I'll go with.

I appreciate the help with the English history lesson Mr Tackett. I'm really enjoying studying about these dogs when I get spare time here and there. Any more info you can give me will be much appreciated for sure.

What do you guys who know more about English dogs think about a cross with Rose X Main Street Jack? I hunted with the Witch dog of Asa Briggs' at the Purina Nationals and really really like how she operated and how she looks. I think they would make a nice cross. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'm going to make a trip up to hunt with Mr Briggs and Jack and some pups off him.

Thanks again for all the help!

Well Del if you were up here tomorrow night you'd see it! I'm going to pick her up then. I've hunted with her a couple times so I know what she is and I like her. I'm pretty excited about getting her here!

I got Rose's papers this morning and got them filled out. I changed her name to "Frederick's Blue Boy Rose." Going to pick her up this evening after work and make a couple drops. I'm pretty pumped; I like her looks, I like her pedigree, and I love how she hunts!

You can't go wrong with Asa. He has probably the best English breeding program in the country.

Went and got Rose tonight. First drop: 600 yards with coon. Second drop: 450 yards with the coon. I'm really liking her.

I also got her 7 generation papers today and I've been doing some studying. In seven generations she shows Blue Boy II (Junior) 10 times; Hard Time Speck 9 times. I'd say she's pretty well Junior and Speck bred. Glad I went with the Blue Boy Rose name. She does have some Wilcox and other stuff thrown in for good measure too.

Any other pictures or history on some of these old English dogs you would like to share I'm all ears. I'm having a lot of fun learning all this and hunting her.

Del,

They are doing pretty good on papers right now. I think they are 5 days out (maybe 4) on transfers. That means whatever day we get it (if it isn't Rush Service) it will be 5 days later before it's processed. If there are no problems on the papers then they should be transferred and mailed to you the next day or maybe 2 days.

What takes so long with papers are the problems. If someone forgot to sign it or they can't read their writing it makes the papers go to the problem file until the issue resolved.

You can also go over to the Registration Forums and ask Russell the status of your papers. He'll be glad to help you out.

Hi Paul, Glad to see you have chose to give the English breed a try. I like the way your little hound is put together.

She sure seems built for hard hunting & that is the type I like as well. Even though I don't get after it quite as hard as I once did, LOL!!

Please keep us posted as to how she adjusts to you and your hunting terrain. As my friend Del Hudson would say, "STAY TICKED" and GOOOD LUCK!!!

Stono River Rocky Amos Jr

Mr. Frederick, here is amos. He was owned by Ervin Commodore. He is the sire of '03 PKC World champ, Stono River Lucky II. I don't have a picture of stono river pepper, but there is a sister to Cofield River's Kate that isn't too far from me. I'll try to get a picture of her if I can.
