dont take the gun
put him in a barrel with a gun and roll him down a big hill
Shoot a 22 with cb's at feed time till it no longer bothers him.Or a cap gun.
live in town so no real gun ,trash dog you are a dumbass, how come all the losers follow me around on here

Friend of mine has a female that was gun shy when she was younger she would stretch the lead as tight as she could get it, lay down and shake like an earth quake til the coon hit the ground. He never really did anything to break her from it though, she just kinda got over it. He just made sure she was always tied at the tree before any shots were fired.

that may work, wouldnt want to leave my dog in the box all day long ecspecially with the temps we have where Im from. I usually take my pups to public places to let them interact with people and get used to "NOISES". The only other way I've heard of people fixing these problems is the "cap gun method" Good Luck. Hope it works out for you.
i got a redbone thats 2 yrs old. wheni first got her i shot a 22 just for practice and she climbed out of her pen and left a tornado path behind her. i didnt know what was going on. well 200 rds later she still dont like it but she dont leave the pen she just hides. if she is on the leash she will either try to break her neck or lay down and shake like she is sh##ing a peach seed. now there is a change she is getting better but she dont like it. my uncle had a deer dog and when he shot at the deer u could bet the dog would be waiting in the box for a ride home, lol. ive always heard to introduce them to loud noises at feeding time. good luck

hey
hey, i'm no pro, but my one redbone was like that, same with when he was around the truck and you started it he would get scared. all i did with him is. when it's feed time tap to metal pans together softly dont go banging them. but after he starts eating while i'm doing this. i take his food away and pet him for a min or two. talking to him and getting him excited. then grab the pans and softly start clanging ummm. start singing to him some happy little tune i prefer what kinda fool do you think i am(but u can sing what ever makes your heart content)lol. as long as he's excited bang umm harder and harder. he starts getting scared stop. and give him his food. I'm promise i'm not crazy, lol this is feild tested!
I've got a dog that was the same way. The first thing i did was to put a small cow bell on her collar. The regular bells that are made for dogs are not loud enough and don't last as long. TSC sells the bells for about the same price as the dog bells. At first she ran and hid in her box because she couldn't get away from the sound. After about a day and a half she started moveing around alot more. I left it on her for about a week. After that, i would hold her by the collar and pet her while my son would shoot the gun, and then i would give her food to her. After about a week of that she would still jump a little at the sound, but she didn't try to run away anymore.
gun shy
I got a dog that was a year and half old that was gun shy because the guy that had him had apparently shot him with a pellet gun I had him at the vet and they found them in his hind end and he was gun shy as hell. So when I hunted him to breaks him on being gun shy I held him to keep him focused on the tree while my son or my buddy shot the coon out and after a few times of that he associated the gun shot with the coon falling out of the tree and now when we shot around him he is not running away he looking up.
shoot and shoot alot around her. she will get use to it. thats how i have always broke a dog from being gun shy

Dont feed the dog for a day and get him really hungry. Feed him away from you and slowly start shooting. Getting closer as he gets used to it. Dont do it all at once. It will take a little while but he will get used to it. I had a gun shy dog I spent alot of shells on and now it dont bother her one bit. Key is making sure he is really hungry so he really wants the food and is willing to stay and eat. Dont let him have it unless he stays.

The best thing to do is to just take them hunting shoot the coon out and keep them tied or hold them and after a few times of that they willl learn what its about and get over it! Shooting around them alot or while they are eating can make it worse. Let them get to know it as something they like. Its no big deal so dont worry about it!

I would also say just tie it at the tree before putting a coon out, it will learn, all my dogs get excited when you shoot at a tree but I bet I could go outside right now and shoot and they all would be scared.
