Track speed

Not trying to start an argument just want an honest opinion are blueticks usually slower on track

Oh no this won't cause any argument at all. Hold on I'm going to make some popcorn for this one! LOL

The walker guys are goin to say they can't work a track worth a hoot. The bluetick guys are going to tell they are working tracks the walkers can't smell.

I'll keep my opinion to myself.

I have seen one or two real good blue track dogs a few average ones and a ton of them that could track but the big problem ive seen is back tracking im not sure why but its what ive seen to be common. but there arnt many around hear to tell ive always liked the blue looks.

Im a walker guy hands down I got 6 ofem the older ones can drift and move a track real good now my huntin buddy hes go a real good blue dog for squirrel and coon he can flat move a coon track some tracks he makes my walkers look like there standing on there heads

i have hunted both breeds.owned both breeds. just like u hear the saying slick treeing walker. well u can get a slow blue or a slick walker but i don't feel there is much truth to that the gossip. anyone that believes everything they hear will have a lot of big stories but wont have a clue what there talking about.

At some point in time, over the years, I have had one of all of them...that said, what I have seen is that there are more differences within the breeds than between each other. Some of the best track dogs, as far as working out a bad track was concerned, I have seen were redbones. Some of the worse back trackers were walkers. I was in a cast at the Virginia state hunt one year {1987??} with Logan's Wild Clover in which he took a track backwards. The guy I was there with hunted a walker...his dog was the only one that took the track the right way and we saw the coon.
One of the fastest track dogs I ever saw was a bluetick. I have seen a few pathetically slow english dogs and the plotts I have owned and seen were very consistent.
You really want to see how good they can move a track??? Put them on a red hot deer...if you still hear a dog after 15 minutes, he's slow!!!!

slower on track or takes more time checking the tree before they settle down and tree ? That's two different things.

I don't think blueticks are any slower than other breeds but on average they don't just immediately slide in under a tree and throw a gigantic locate and start chopping.

Speed

Speed is one thing Endurance is another , lots of hounds have great burst of speed on a hot trail , but in a long run you have to have good carriage underneath you. if you have the one that can do that then in the end he's going to be the better hound ...

There is a lot more variation between strains within a breed than there is from one breed to another.

Maybe at one time there was more standardization of traaits in breeds, but that time is long gone.

Good track dogs and bad are in all breeds.

Are you thinkin bout gettin one? in all honesty i love the way blueticks look but i hunt walkers because ive yet to see a bluetick around here that can track with them. im not a blue hater by any means seen some respectable ones but as a whole they havent convinced me to switch not even close. alot of walkers are tree happy but ive been lucky the past ten yrs. and like the high headed type driftin track dog .

They got a stronger voice box than a walker went with a buddy to one of them all blue hunts those dogs barked for 3 straight days and nights never did bark down!!!! Been a walker dog you would to have got out the la 200 lol!!

Ask anybody that ever hunted with my old Jewel female about her Bluetick track speed.
