I've had my fair share of raw deals at a couple of clubs and I just won't return back, the best thing to do is start filling out formal complaints and UKC will resolve the problem the best they can. As far as slander,I think if its true don't be afraid to share it. It isn't slander it's the truth and will put a stop to alot of cheating in the hunts. I know alot of clubs around here need to quit giving certain people the scorecard and try to keep buddy's from drawing out with one another. The only way to win is to be honest and take your - + points as they come.
Just something to ponder:
1. Before you offer an opinion you may want to check on your state laws regarding slander. 2. Hopefully, your pockets are deep and full enough to cover your slanderous comments if you so choose and it goes further than a public message forum.
In case you were wondering; this is why we delete many posts that are deemed to be slanderous. UKC is not interested in getting involved in any possible lawsuits resulting from such content.
Some clubs and MOH's need to have there license taken away. I only know of 3 that have ABSOLUTLEY no business being a MOH. One of them I wouldn't mind except he was the MOH at 4 different hunts I attended in a row. There was a problem in at least 3 casts that I know of and he completley screwed the ruling every time. Amazing how someone that has never even coon hunted is allowed to be a MOH.

My take on the problem is this. If a person has a bad night at a club then tell about it. Leave out your own personal twist and hear say. There is nothing wrong with a person telling about something that happened to them. If it happen to be at your club then I am sure they will tell where it was that this thing took place. All clubs will have things like this come up. If the club officials hear the same problem has happened more than a couple of times, then they should stand up and take care of the situation. Usually one remark is a person being mad because they didn't win. Two times from different people then it should be addressed. We generally try to jump on stuff like this at our club and take care of it. That is how you keep slander down about your club. Take care of the people who bring it to your club.

Well I can tell you first hand that you can be prosectued from what you post on this board in MS. I had a situation a while back with a person that almost landed my tail end in court, but luckily I was able to talk to them and let them know that no punt was intended.

I would think publishing individual's names as posible rules violaters in a magazine could be considered slanderous in some courts of law. A club's kangaroo court may not hold up in some courts of law. I sure do not want to test it and I have never had any problems with any clubs or UKC, but I would bet if someone had deep pockets and a good lawyer, it could be contested.
I am just bringing this up as a possible example, not to embarras anyone or to challenge UKC in any way.

I just want the sport to continue and everyone conduct themselves the way a man should.
That's true no doubt!
Some people just look for an excuse everytime there dog looks pathetic so an easy way to cover it up is say well I got cheated, gained up onwhatever excuse they can come up with.
Then you have youre fellows that have had a few bad hunts caused by actuall crooks and cheats then they themselves figure the only way to win is the cheat and or get even.
You also have youre rookies that are being screwed all the time and have no clue as to what is happeneing. i witnesed this first hand one night and got scratched for arguing with the judge Because I stuck up for the kid.
Then you have youre experienced veterans and good sports that win and loose with class. Those are the fun ones to draw. Win or loose.
Nothing wrong with constructive criticism. But calling someone out or name dropping, can lead to a bunch of folks getting they're feathers ruffled.
Nothing wrong with posting opinions... It is a free country (or at least it is supposed to be).
If you follow the proper procedures (voting, questioning, and filing formal complaints) then everyone involved gets educated and the idea of sportsmanship is maintained, but kicking or screaming and carrying on like a child in a hunt or getting on the internet and spreading hearsay and false truths isn't helping anything.
If you're going to use hearsay or spread false truths and use someone's name and post it publicly on the internet, that is slander and everyone should take that into consideration before making such posts.
The truth is an absolute solid defense, NO MATTER WHAT.
No deep pockets needed.
If it happened you can tell the world about it without worrying about anything. No worries about slander or libel.
If someone stole from you, you can tell the world and they can't do a thing about it.
That's why UKC's list isn't considered libel, they are indeed barred, on probation, whatever.
It's a true statement therefore they don't have a thing to worry about. Even if it caused a divorce, bankruptcy, no matter what. If it's true then it doesn't matter who you tell or what you write it in.

That is my main reason for remaing worthless and noaccount most of my life. It allows me the privilege of never worrying about anyone going after my money.
Jim this is quite the outlook you have. I'm sitting here laughing! If a man speaks the truth then it isn't slander. If you think you were screwed then file a complaint! If you still feel screwed after the ruling tell the screwers or suck it up and move on. I strongly believe that if you confront the person you have the problem with and tell him how you feel in a gentlemanly way that a lot of problems can be resolved! If none of the above tactics work than I say tell him he is a crook and tell everyone else he is! Expect the worse, but feel good inside because you stood for what you believe is right.

"If you tell the truth, it isn't slander". That is similar to the old saying, "The only time you can believe a coon hunter is when he calls another coon hunter a liar." LOL
I have seen plenty of what I would call cheating going on in some dog competition events. Some of it subtle, some of it blatent.. 3 cheats can easily screw an honest cast member. Instead of a random draw, I have seen some clubs delibertly put 3 cheats in a cast. THey already planned the winner at the coffee shop the day before the hunt. I won't say which club or which Kennel Club was behind it but it does happen.
My self, I don't go to many competition hunts to compete any more. That way, I don't worry about it. I have been known to call a spade a spade. I reckon it could get me into trouble some day.
