*Jody Minier* - The Camp Victory Crusader...North Mountain Kennel

It is with a heavy, pain filled heart that I come to you with the most terrible news I have received in a long time.

Jody Minier, aka northmountain or northie, well known to many for his kind, caring, giving heart & always working for 'his' kids at Camp Victory & tirelessly giving of himself for Chillisquaque Coonhunters, Washingtonville, PA. He is also a well known & loved MOH & BSJ. He has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. In June of 07 he was diagonosed with skin cancer of the groin, surgery was done & he was told it had been a success. In November, he again was admitted to the hospital with what he thought was an infection, only to find out that the cancer has returned & has grown. On Monday I received a phone call from Bill Brubaker with the news that Jody is terminal & the future outlook is grim.

I spoke with Jody last evening on the phone, he is on so much painkiller, that I am sure Jody did not know who I was or much else for that matter. I would tell you all to phone him, but would be little use, as he is groggy & 'out of it'. I will however, be posting an address for you to mail cards & letters to him. God hoping in a lucid moment, he will be able to read them & know who they are from & how much he is loved & thought of.

Please, I am begging you all to keep him in your prayers. He has always been the one to give, please let's all give some back to him. Jody has been my best friend for many years, never has he turned away my call or question for help. He always had time for you & loved to cheer you up with one of his hunting stories or just plain life experience.

Earlier last year, his cousin said to him 'Jod, don't do Camp Victory ths year.' Jody said 'Why the H... not?' 'Cuz you are so close to have made $100,000.00 for them in donations & if you reach that goal, you won't have anything to work towards.' Jody denied that, of course, & 2007 Camp Victory auction was held & the amount made in donations topped Jody's goal. Jody wasn't able to attend this auction, though, as he was still in the hospital from surgery. Even more eerie was the fact that I wanted to make Jody an afghan & asked what colors. He said Steeler colors. It will be my funeral shroud. I said 'Oh heck, by the time you check out, you'll have that one worn out from wrapping yourself up in it to watch your team play & be working on a 3rd or 4th one for you.' I really am not understanding all of this, I'm in the asking why stage & maybe there is hope stage. Tomorrow I will post his mailing address. IF you would like his phone number, I would ask that you call me & ask me for it, remember that he won't be the same ole Jody. I will also be posting updates on him.

If anyone has any stories or memories of Jody, how bout taking a moment to jot them down on here. So that those that have not had the wonderful experience of getting to know this man personally, can get a better understanding of just how special he is.

Jody has moved to the nursing home, here is his address:

ORANGEVILLE NURSING AND REHAB.
ROOM 106 BED 2

I have a story to tell

On one of the many nights I called to cry on his shoulder or in his ear, I guess. He told me about some geese & his Aunt Lois. Seems Aunt Lois LOVED bingo. Never missed it. Well Jody had this pair of geese, a goose & a gander. Well the gander, being the male goose & all, did what a male goose does best. Threatens. Aunt Lois was headed down the driveway on her way to bingo & the gander came out at her with his wings aflappin'. Aunt Lois never stopped, smush right over him. Jody says 'Nothing got between her & B-64. Jody felt bad & went out with a shovel & pulled him off the driveway. Well that left the female & she was so upset, Jody thinks over the loss of her man, the she commited goosacide & crawled into the kennel with one of his Walker dogs, I think Eagle. Jody said the next morning he went out to feed & there was the goose, a slimmy, yucky mess in the pen, dead. Oh & he had a B & T one time, don't know the dogs name, but there was no way the dog was right in the head, cuz it was during deer hunting season & all the guys was at his place, standing in the yard gabbing & the B & T went right up to a duck & did the 'emmmm....doink the duck thing'. Jody said 'Couldn't deny it or even pretend it never happened, cuz it was right there in afront a everyone.'

Then he told me about the time he asked Leon Robbins for medical advice. Jody says never ask Leon for medical advice, I done learned the hard way. Seemed that Jody 'pulled a muscle' in his groin area & asked Leon what to do for it. Leon says 'Why you go git yerself some of that thar cream, what's it called Ben something & you rub it in your leg or butt or whatever. Just don't get it on your dink.'! So Jody did what Leon said, put it on right before going to bed. Crawled under the covers & things was ok for a bit & then it started to get a bit warm, so he threw a cover off. Didn't help, threw nother one off & by then it was areally startin' to light up. He said he jumped outta bed & headed for the bath room. Says he done drug his hinder across the floor like a dog, just a howlin', tears streaming down his face. Got to the shower & said he stood & let the water run & then got the towel & flapped it & rubbed & flapped. Said it was the worse thing he ever experienced. Jody said he said to Leon the next day that it dang near killed him, Leon said 'I told you NOT to get it on yer dink!'

I do have a million more, man could he make a person laugh. And do mean laugh, til the tears run & you piddle in your pants.

All you can do is to pray that God's will be done and not ours. He sounds like a wonderful person and I will pray for him. Also pray for his family and friends. God bless.

Here is Jody's

address...
Geisinger Medical Center
100 Academy Ave.
Danville, PA 17822

LTAC Room 339

I spoke with his mom today. She told me that it is basic comfort measures only. The cancer has progressed up through his lower bowel & bladder & is working up. I asked the nurse today if he ever has a time through the day that he seems more with it, then others & she no, he is in & out mostly all the time. We are planning to go visit him on Sunday afternoon. Everyone who knows Jody, knows he loves to eat & loves mash taters, gravey & roast. His mom says he quit eatting, I'm thinking probally from the meds.

Please take a moment to drop Jody a quick note, the nurse said that they will read them for him, if he is unable to. Flowers would be nice too. I have to root around here, but if you can, track down his home address & drop his mom, Darlene a card. She told me today that this is so hard on her. She said 'I've had 2 strokes & have diabetis & I'm going to have to bury my baby. Parents aren't suppose to out live their children.' All I could tell her was that I couldn't even begin to understand what she is going through. I know I'm shedding tears for him & he's not gone, yet. What will I be like when it does happen?

Let's get some more stories up. If there isn't any up by tomorrow, I'll share some more of the one's he has told me.

Jody was the MOH at the Springville, PA club during the late winter, early spring hunt for years. This used to be the traditional first hunt of the year for a few of us up in NY.

Before you even got in the doors, you could hear Jody raisin hell or picking on someone. It never mattered whether you were a man, woman, or child. If he got the chance, he was going to try and get someone worked up. And, he usually succeeded.

My best story about Jody is from several years ago at this club. It was cold with a mix of rain and snow, but there was a good turnout of 23 dogs. Like always, it was heavily loaded with walkers, with 5 dogs being offbreeds.

Despite the weather, the coon were moving for the hunters that night, and lo and behold, the walkers were shut out. After handing out the trophies, Jody stood there looking at the bluetick that won registered. Now, he is already giving the walker men a good ribbing. The crowd is getting louder and louder by the minute with him egging everyone on. The final straw was when Jody yells out,"Not only did you walker boys get beat by a bluetick, but she's a fat bluetick too!" It was chaos after that. It remains as one of the favorite hunts I ever went to. Especially since I had a B+T that got a win slip and trophy that night so I was one of the pickers with Jody instead of against him.

I spoke with Jody

this evening. God bless him, he had about 2 minutes of with it conversation, but the rest was garbled & out there. I did tell him I was coming to visit him on Sunday & he seemed to understand that & expressed happiness over it.

I have known Jody for better than 20 years and I have plenty of great memories of the time we spent together. He and I made a bunch of road trips together to different hunts and if I needed a co pilot to drive off some where to get a dog he was always willing to tag along. We would never run out of things to talk about and would always end up with soar ribbs from laughing. It would be hard for me to pick one story to put on here because there have been so many good times.

Jody has done so much for our club over the years and always tolk the bull by the horns when it came time for the hard work of getting things going for our Camp Victory Hunt and Benefit. He would do anything to help those kids.

Hang in there old freind and god bless you.Jimmy

Northy

I only met Jody once. It was at AO back several years ago when some of the old CC gang was in their hey day . I think it was the same year I met Joe Kool.
We talked some and later that day I stopped by and got some raffle tickets from Jody and he explained to me the cause he was working for . I could tell immediatly that the work Jody was doing for these kids Victory Camp was work that he felt compelled in his huge heart to do as though he was led to do it by a higher power. I was struck by the enormous amount of compassion that he showed for others . I saw him several times over the weekend and he was always smiling and I felt like I had known the man for years.
I was saddened to hear of Northy's situation and I'll pray that God will comfort him and his family and I am greatful for the opportunity to meet and know him.

Lori .....when you do see him please tell him that "Bodene" is thinking of him .

God Bless you "Northy"

I remember meeting Northy at the McClure club. Before that we had chatted on CC. From our first introduction on, he acted like we were best friends for years. Even though I only knew him about 2 or 3. Like was said earlier, he has a heart bigger than he is!

Will definately keep him in my prayers.
