Mouths
Through the years I've hunted with a half dozen or less with dogs that had outstanding speed but never saw a bawl mouth dog that did. All outstanding speed dogs either had a fast chop mouth or a screaming squall. Coons seem to run harder in front of a squall mouth for some reason. In the late 70's I had a Mundo dog, a 90 lb dog with a super loud bawl mouth that I had short races with. Not because he was hot nosed either but when he opened coons climbed. He was actually below average speed.
Always heard Bellars Stricker dog had outstanding speed and would have liked to see him go. Be interested in ther peoples experiences and opinions.
Outstanding Track Dogs
It is physically impossible for a dog to completely empty their lungs with a long bawl with every step and be fast. There isn't any oxygen left to run. The only fast straight bawl mouthed track dogs that I'ved seen would only opened sparingly, about once every 100 yards.
Just my opinion.
Are you a faster runner when you keep your mouth shut or when you sing and run?
From what I've seen of the Mundo dogs they leaned a little towards the hotter nosed side and liked a track they could run. Kinda like a modern day hounds. Spoils you after hunting them if ya know what I mean.
