Need training advice!
I just got a 18 month old blue tick female gave to me from my friend, she is a grade dog but out of a couple of real coon hunting dogs, she is a great looking dog and she has no problem going out with the other dogs and THREE/FOURTHS of the way treeing with a really big male type mouth. I am a younger hunter and have never had a young dog just old dogs that done do their own thing. I really want to get her to do her own thing and I also hunt her with her dad who provides meat but is also a little mean on the tree was needing opinions on what to do about that as well. I really am just wondering if she is to old to train and make a real dog, and if not how to make her run and tree her OWN coon and get her accurate I really appreciate any feedback THANKS!
first thing you ought to do is not hunt her with the mean dog, there is only one way to stop a tree fighter. . that is by culling him. if you cant find a broke dog to hunt her with just keep taking her by herself where there are coon's, maybe put out some feeder buckets so she will have some hot tracks.
above all dont hunt her with that mean dog, just my opinion, good luck
also this post should be on the coonhound page. you will get more help
Training advice
you might try to live trap a coon or two and turn them loose and give her a hot track to run and tree but most important do not hunt her again with a mean dog .Getting jumped on at tree will cause her to not want to be around a tree. Kind of a bad time of year to hunt a inexperienced dog by itself but it would be better to do that than ruin it by hunting with mean dog. Good Luck
