I have never done any updates on my alpha it was used when I got it I have had it a year and a half. My buddy's are always updating this and that on theirs and always having troubles I have never had any trouble with mine is there somthing to that ?

I'm not Mr. Conkey but I worked for a software company for years. Updates are normally to fix issues and those updates a lot of times have unintended issues with them. If it isn't broke don't fix it. I had a 220 hand held sense they first came out. It works great and has never had an update
