First time bench show and hunt question

Me and my 9 yr old son have developed a huge love of coon hunting the last 3 yrs. we have a young walker ( my sons dog) that has been doing real well at a little over a year old. We've been practicing with mock hunts with friend and doing well. The end of this month plan to hunt in our first hunt. I've desided to handle him for my son because I would like more experience before he starts but in getting to my question, my boy is very excited about handling him in bench show. He has worked alot on getting dog to stand still and holding him and pup is doing great but I don't know what all it intales. Pup leads well in general but never worked on the way to walk him, he always lifts him to table( is that ok) he is a hunting dog and just realized the question if I should wash and shine him up before? If anyone has the time could u post some info on things that are standered things other than standing good we could work on? I'd love my boy to win and I'm trying to do any and everything to give him the chance. Thanks for reading

I have a professional Show DVD

That teaches you all the steps of starting and training a show dog from a pup to an older dog.

If you are interested its
$30.00
send check or money order to
Rick Stevenson
86 Cosby Rd.
Enid,Ms. 38927

I trained champions to world champions. It goes step by step on things to do before you even go to your first show to insure you are competitive from the get go.
That is key. If you havent done your homework and trainging before you go, in most cases somebody else did and you will lose.
You want to instill confidence in your children and their dog.
Hope this helps.
I love showing and it is even more fun when you win.
thanks
Best wishes with your success in the woods and the bench.

there are lots of great show men and

women who will chime in and give you some great advice.
For me Its time spent during the week. Expose them to sounds and noises and people walking around the bench while they try and pose them.
Trust me at a show men will be walking around talking, trucks pulling up, doors slamming, tailgates dropping and dogs barking, Even had a dog get tied up in a fence and went buck wild once while I was showing. every dog on the benches freaked out. We had to stop the show until somebody got the dog freed up. Lots of dogs never regained their composure.
I turn a radio on and have my wife walk around the dog while I pose it and let her touch it like a judge would. some judges take a long time and most dogs cant stand still for 60 seconds much less 3 minutes. I extend the time I keep them up there just in case that happens. also if you have a garage or barn, pose them in there. Barns and buildings make strange sounds that some dogs get spooked with. You never know what kind of atmosphere you will show in so this gets you prepared for any and all things.

Hope this helps some. pm me if you need any other help. Be glad to give you what advice I can.
Again, we have some fantastic show folks on this board that can ad to things I mite have left off.
