-- My First Redbone (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928368360)
My First Redbone
I coon hunted when I was younger with my gpa and hunted alot of hounds all kinds of breeds and i just have always loved it. After my gpas health went south got out of it for awhile and 2 and a half years ago i got to a point i could buy me a coonhound and wanted a redbone because that was the only breed i hadnt hunted and my gpa always talked about this redbone he had way before my time that was by far best he ever had. So the first redbone pup i found close i bought didnt know anything about bloodlines and his parents have no hunt titles i just wanted one. I trained this redbone from 10 weeks old and would tree a hot track by 7 months. At a 1yr and a half i hunted him hard and he seemed to put a coon up in places i didnt think coons were and the best minding dog ive had. I can take him hunting and i dont even have to put a leash on him when i say go he goes and when i say lets go to truck he stays close but if one that walk to truck you strike track he will run it. I say load up he jumps on tailgate waits to be petted then goes in the box. Due to new job , my first child, and rough winter we didnt get out but few times in very rough conditions. Things have slowed down and weather is been very nice. So after a very long layup we took him out last weekend and i 2 hours he treed 6 times with 4 trees with coon 1 slick and 1 den. Last night went out treed 7 times in 2 hours 6 trees with coon and 1 den. I feel very lucky to have a hound this good just have to say he has me sold on Redbones. Im not saying this is the best hound out there but he is the best i have ever had and he might not be able to win comp hunts he does have a few flaws but he will show you the coon. He has won a field trial and is a show champion with 1 win towards grand show but time and money got tight but hope to try and try more with him. Does anyone else have a good ole redbone that sold them on the breed? I like reading about all these good ones and some of them doing the winnings out there makes me believe the redbone breed is a great breed to hunt.

Breeding
Was curious how it's bred?
Redbones were a family tradition for me. I've been breeding them by myself for about 20 years now. The one that started all I have now was given to me by a family friend.
