What a beautiful night!

I don't know how the weather is elsewhere, but last night was absolutely beautiful out. The temperature was 53 not to hot and not too cold. The setting crescent moon was pretty cool as it turned almost orange just before setting. Then after the moon set ... wow ... the sky was filled with a gazillion stars.

It was a school night so i could only make a couple of drops. First drop the dog went over a mile deep into a 7 sq. mi. section, and treed. The closest i could get to her was .8 miles. The two track I took was lined with 80 feet high white pines on the east side and some big ole oaks and maples on the west side. I was serenaded by the sound of a walcur calling me as I was walking down a spectacular corridor. The damp sand offered no sound of my foot steps as i walked staring into the night sky above. The entire drop took an hour and 10 minutes by the time a sweaty smiling coon hunters sat down in the front seat of the Jeep and tilted a cold water down my throat.

I thought I would have time for one more quick drop, but I also kept that thought for the briefest of moments. I cut Rain down another 2-track to the south this time. She made a large semi-circle back to the west and north, and treed again about 100 yards off the road. She was treed on one of those ancient white pines towering high trying to stretch to to touch the heavens.

Another smile broke across my face as I spied two little eyes reflecting back at me at the very top. I let Rain tree for about 5 minutes and then lead her back to the Jeep. While giving my hunting partner a drink, I again got lost in my gaze into the stars. It was a good night to be out.

Man, I love the fall!!!!
