year old dog new tricks?

To make a long story short I have a bluetick that is a year old and I want to train him to hunt but I don't have any traing experience and he has very little training under his belt is it even possible to start him this late or is it a lost cause and keep in mind I am willing to spend as much time nd effort as it takes on him but like I said I have no idea what I am doing and either does he every other dog I have had was mostly trained when I got them any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance

I.don't even start hunting a dog until it is 8 months to a year old...they learn quicker most people are putting pups in sixth grade befor they are even ready for first...one of the reasons a lot of culls are getting passed around..other then bad breeding..he is just right to start "training" but really he will be training you..

A year old is just right start with handeling teach him to come, load and lead catch you a coon set in the yard and turn the pup loose let him find it when he does just let him do what he wants to if its in him it will come out after a little while on the coon put him up take the coon and turn it loose aand hide the cage don't let the pup see where you turned it loose take the pup for a walk in the area where you let the coon go see what happens if he runs and trees it give it to him you might give him one or two more caged coon no more than that then have you a feeder ready hunt him a few times on the bucket after three or maybe four on the bucket start hunting in the wild you want to give a pup the at least first ten coons he trees make him hunt for him on the bucket don't take him to the same place to cut him every time start with 100 yards away and get a littel further each time and cut him in different directions to the bucket rember just three or four bucket coon then only wild coon Good luck
